I'm 65kg so I'm not going to annoy you with an answer. I will say that with the 725 wing (more analogous to your situation), I have to be planing to take off. I run the 1.0 shim with the mast base at 105cm from the front screw and the HGO 8 fwiw.

Great work! So excited to see your ideas expressed in real carbon fiber. If I may ask - what advantages are there to the upturned tips?

My AHD foil board has elongated bolt holes from the factory . As mentioned before, a little judicious use of a small round file might be helpful .

But it’s prob sand in those grooves rather than corrosion so good twist attempts with the bashing may help. As may sensible heating of the bottom of the mast

Good idea on creating a temp difference but wouldn't something cold to be better? Hot will make the aluminum expand (my favorite ai assures me it has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion vs cf) and just make the fit more snug. Ice water or a blast from an aerosol freeze spray.

Heating mast - expansion. And the extension is carbon I thought…?

Oops! You, sir, are correct. Although I've had a couple of those extensions long ago, all mine presently are alu and that fogged my brain. fwiw, the same ai said the thermal expansion of cf wasn't much (but I'm not in a place to suggest not trying it):

"Carbon fiber: ~0 to 2 µm/m·°C (and can even be slightly negative along the fiber axis, depending on layup)
Carbon fiber has an exceptionally low CTE, which is one of the reasons it's used in applications where dimensional stability across temperature ranges matters (telescope mirrors, satellite structures, precision instruments)."

This isn't a new thing. Was on a trip in the Antarctic this past (their) summer and onboard were a couple of Australian researchers taking samples trying to determine which populations of birds had been affected by the flu. Spent a dinner with them discussing their work. Bird and marine mammal (seal) populations in the colder southern climates have been severely impacted by this.

Yes, the media makes money by hyping stuff up but this virus is nasty work and has already demonstrated its impact on animal populations.

Not uncommon to use a round file to slightly elongate/ovalize the screw holes just enough. iirc, some boards came with holes already like that.

^^^ I agree with a lot of that.

I suspect it to be a Gorge-oriented decision perhaps as all the wingers here in Oz use plate systems. There’s about 1-5% at a guess who use a Tuttle mast as they’re racing. So whilst slingshot might think a board that suits Mike’s and chewy foil systems are just great I really dunno about the rest of the world thinking that. They want plate n tracks.

more windsurfers than wingers use Tuttle as it’s used for IQ and slalom …. but there’s still as much or more on plate n tracks. But slingshot pulled out of windsurf so why would they care.

seems to me they’re just smashing out ideas and videos as the winger market is saturated and they want something different every 6-12mths. Reinvented the wheel in the process.

Balz (80kg) shows how to get going in light air with his favorite sail: 4.8. Meanwhile, Mr. "windfoil hype is over" is trying to sell 9.5s over on his youtube channel.

and the trim box...

Showed up on my youtube yesterday and thought I'd check in. Gobsmacked when I saw the foil mast and noticed the ends. Wingfoil only but what many of us have suggested for a while: tuttle box foils take off a bit easier than tracks. imo, tuttles install faster.

120 isn't a hard number. At your weight something down to 115 won't feel that much different. A board that size will cover a lot of range and with the appropriate fin can go change behavior to suit a lot of different conditions. Having a bit of float will help out a lot on those marginal days.

Nice footage and wonderful backing track. Lucky enough to see Jimmy Webb live once - amazing song writer (and story teller). A great recent cover (and Flea is NOT the bass player!):

Very privileged to see George G sending it on both foil and fin on our home patch of water. The video is pretty good but live is unreal and how physical he is. Keep sending it AWESOME 😎

I can't imagine seeing it live. At first you don't notice it but after watching a while, you realize he's absolutely ripping when he throws a lot of his freestyle moves. Incredible.

Hows this for starters? Reading from right to left, SU313070088 becomes:

0088, serial number of the board made THAT MONTH.

07, month of build (in this case, July)

13, year of build (others should be able to match the colour scheme to a year)

SU3, actual internal Starboard model number.

Comments welcome 😀

2004. Specs and colorway seem to match up. Big changes in colorway in 2006. Previous Carves loved this blue. I had a couple of early 2000s 111s. Still have a woodie in the trailer
www.windsurfing44.com/matos/Starboard/2004/Starboard_2004_fr.pdf

for comparison and the 131 became a 133 that year

Hey guys...I just saw this thread.
Luuk (NED-55) is 6'7", Grae (AUS-81) is 6'4" & Johan DEN-37) is 6'2". Not sure of weights.
They are obviously strong, but their biggest attribute is fitness.

The real issue is the 8yr old equipment that is just not up to the task.
The foils and boards were never designed to be worked this hard and the failure rate has become a huge issue.
For example: The last 3 events Grae competed in for this season:
1- Europeans: Grae broke 2 new foil masts . Day 1 and the medal series. No redress available. 2nd to 7th.
2- French Olympic week: Front foil split in 2. Luckily it broke in the last race of the day. 1st.
3- Parma. The board foil box collapsed. He had to carry multiple DNF's and went from 2nd to 12th.

Good times...(heavy sarcasm)

Are there talks of a gear refresh so we don't go back down the same road RS:X did?

As said above, appreciate the insight. Thanks for the response. Watched and enjoyed a fair amount of the Euros coverage on The Foil's youtube channel. IQ seems to get a lot of respect in the wider sailing community.

Interesting moment yesterday at the European championships. Johan Soe was first going up the second upwind leg and it looked like Grae Morris had a bit better of an upwind line and was able to round the windward mark first before the last downwind leg. We've all seen how much speed Soe has had offwind in the PWA the last several years but he couldn't make up much if any of his deficit on this leg. Both were very fast, of course. Interesting that Morris had the back foot out downwind.Time stamp about 1:38:56 in.

Try front foot in strap. You may be sneaking it a bit forward and that will glue you to the water. Back foot sounds fine.
Try mast base 105 ish cm from front tuttle screw. Edit: iirc, some IQ foilers go back even further to 100-102 but starting with it too far back can be scary. Like Subsonic says, experiment with small changes. A cm or two can make a difference.
At your weight, you'll need to be at least semiplaning to take off unless you have a really good pumping game. That rig can take a lot of wind. I was sailing in 10-20 kts the other day with a 6.9 and SB 725 front wing and weigh only about 65 kg. Don't be afraid to power it up. When it's off the water though, it'll glide better through lulls than your old foil.
I'm on the orange board.

Props to Duotone for some new windfoiling gear (even if it's derived from wing). NP, are you listening? With the new Swift wings, you are one decent fuse away from a good windfoil.

Nope. He's been riding it for years. I've read his and his friends' postings in their local email list. I know a few seabreezers see him (not sure how often). Where he sails can be a challenging place.
Zeeko briefly had one back 5-6 years ago, too.

Anyone got any experience with the F-One Plume?
I`m a keen winDfoiler up to about 15 m/s, then I`m in the mood for the F-One Plume 4.2.
Was out today in about 8-10 m/s. Can stand on the board, but not enough wind to get on the foil...
(Slingshot Wizard V4 130 l and Slingshot Phantasm E990 and I`m about 90 kg)

Grateful for any feedback

You may want to post this in a new thread so you get better visibility. Also, add what sail you are using.

"Johan Søe has officially withdrawn from the 2026 PWA slalom season, choosing instead to fully commit to his Olympic and iQFOiL campaign. The Danish foil specialist often known as the ‘Beast’, has won every slalom event he has entered since 2023!"
Two of the best PWA foilers (Soe and Goyard) are now campaigning IQFoil even with the new 8m sail limitation. There's a whole lot to read into this. One thing that comes up to me is that the PWA limitation on the number of hydrofoil wings forced a trend to larger sail sizes and smaller hydrofoil wings, the opposite of what most recreational riders use. It also dampened development of performance lightweight gear as most of the focus was on smaller wing sizes as opposed to bigger wings that would be used by or influence the gear of rec riders.
For all the chatter about the IQ gear being meh compared to modern designs, it probably is but still can provide a good day on the water. It's a shame that Starboard stopped selling the additional gear (wings and fuses) that were compatible to extend the usefulness of the IQ gear that racers offload.

I should add that I have nothing against smaller wings for those with the skill, determination and gear. But, they can be daunting to the intermediate or heavier rider.

Comment in the latest Mario Kumpel video and not surprised. He's always been a reluctant windfoiler it feels like.

Just when I thought this was another crackpot who shared my feelings, the video below came up on my youtube feed - other than a Robby Swift profile, the most recent PWA video. Does it feel like Patrik's dominance (plus the Phantom implosion) has done a number on the performance side of windfoiling? I've got nothing against fins and the healthiest ecosystem would have both fin and foil racing. If nothing else, no one wants to return to the days of competitors sitting on a beach waiting for 15 kts.

(As an aside, after the dreadful Sail GP races in Sydney, some pundits even mentioned using electric drives to get the boats going. We aren't the only branch of sailing where a lack of wind plays a big role in the success of the sport.)
