Kite down, Sharks below... The unknown beneath.

Daaa Dum. Da Dum! Queue the Jaws theme music, because next time you crash your kite, you'll be thinking about what's lurking beneath the surface. While Cabrinha Pro Moona Whyte was in Tahiti earlier this year, the wind died, and her kite dropped in the water. The situation is familiar to most kiteboarders, where you float there waiting for a gust - that the feeling of helplessness sets in, and sharky thoughts creep into the mind. For Moona however, she didn't need to imagine it, she could see the sharks circling below her! Luckily, they're just 'reefies', Black Tip Reef Sharks are generally harmless to humans. Although they look pretty menacing, Black Tips are skittish by nature, if encountered by kiteboarders will usually swim away. Snorkellers and divers are quiet enough to observe reef sharks from close proximity, and cases of humans being bitten are extremely rare unless provoked. Seeing this picture begs the question, would you rather know, or not know what's under the water surface when you're kiting? Think about it next time you're floating after a crash!
