You get a choice...
Between a big douche and a turd sandwich
I found it quite amusing. Too close to the truth I think.

Now that Garret is on board I spose that is a turd sammy with some healthy green hidden in the middle...

Personally I was brought up tp vote labour but have not been able to stomach either party for a decade now... I respect anyone's opinion (really) as long as it is their own and they are aware and balance the issues.. People who vote one way everytime or simply do as their parents/partners give me the sh!ts..

At this stage Howard and the cronies have to go. They have trashed the fibre and tolerance of this society and set it back 30-40 years... They have also by example helped to foster an incredibly selfish and "I'm alright jack" attitude/lifestyle both domestically and internationally. Time is up azzhools...

As for (hopefully) a new government.. don't expect any radical changes soon...

Here endeth todays sermon...

Of course if you don't like reading political opinion on SB - then why are you???

I think kevin rud would make an excellent liberal pm.. I just can't see him controlling the labor factions and internal mechanics of his party to what he currently projects new labor to be.

I like some of the ideas labor have... especially renewable energy alternatives to libs nuclear ..I don't buy into the kyoto emissions treaty ..that's bollocks in my view especially when china is left out.

duno who I will vote for yet.

So much cynicism for a bunch of fun lovin windsurfers. Anyone would think you cared. Its heart warming.

My particular bias is a bias towards the fabled "moral government". I'm sure we can afford it. Who can we find to do it? I'm sure there are some perfectly good theories to explain exactly why there can be no such creature but, like the popular belief in God and the hereafter I find it a comforting delusion.

Why do you think we have it so good now, because China is buying our produce. Now why is that. Well it is because we are a reliable source and why is that. Well Greenroom it's because the Liberal govt has managed to squash down the unions who hold the country to ransom, Chinas not going to buy from a country that all of a sudden cant supply them as the unions have stopped work and called a strike. It's the current govt that has managed to show the world we a a reliable country to trade and deal with. Theres plenty of other countries out there with raw produce for China. So you can thank the current Govt and their polices for our wealth and for the increase in value for your house if you are buying one. I'm not happy Howard has lied to us about not increasing interest rates and then the banks increasing them. But I am enjoying my current standard of living right now.
Unions do a great job looking after workers but they get a bit carried away and greedy. A lot of people get paid good money to lean on a shovel yet if you worked for yourself you'd get paid good money but you'd actually be digging with your shovel. Whats wrong with getting paid appropriately for you productivity!
Do you vote Labour because your parents did ?

Political Agendas aside

China will buy from anyone. Period.

They dont give a rats behind where it comes from or what the government is like, they are even looking at trying to secure supplies in Africa. They cant get enough of the stuff.

Looks like you are the only smart bloke here that can see that. Howard has done stuff all. He doesnt do the work. WE DO! I was on train 4 and train 5 on the gas plant on the Burrup. A gas plant just doesnt get built on its own! We built it. Its quality built and built safely with no one going home in a body bag! Why? Because the workers are the union, we stick together and we do an honest days work for good pay. None of this work 12 hours on flat rate crap. Admit it fellas, I sense a bit of jelousy. Look at all the big jobs getting built in Perth. All union built. Did they build themselves? Where they built by slave labour? No

This is life. We cant escape what we are faced with every day of our lives. Our livelyhood in the hands of a government. Climate change needs to be addressed NOW not next year or the year after. Whos gonna do that?
This is the general section of the forums where we can discuss anything and everything here. Why dont those who are discusing favourate movies go somewhere else?
I think alot of people get quite defensive with the hint of political preference. Are we ashamed of who we vote for? Why? No principles, no guts.

I remember my parents struggling whilst Labor was in all those years ago, and since Johnny took over, they haven't been happier. I remember Dad being out of work and only being able to eat cruddy "bean-picker" meals and them only ever being able to afford a "shared" xmas present for me and my brothers....... I hope Kevin loses.......... Just my opinion but "better the devil you know......."

however though, hubby and I had to sell our first house earlier this year due to the interest rate rise....... But then I also understand that the Interest Rates are governed by the Reserve Bank and they are not controlled by the government. I asked them why I had to sell my house and they basically told me that it was because of the consumers. The more WE spend the HIGHER the interest rates will go. Bit of a pity though, especially since now we have to rent and with this latest rate rise, we are now paying more for rent than what we were for a mortgage......

THE SYSTEM SUCKS!!!!

Yep all good. I got the passion I got the balls! Getting paid well has nothing to do with being under a Liberal government. Its thanks to collective bargaining. Who will reap the rewards in this economic boom? Not the workers with Howards IR laws.
I guess time will tell and on saturday we will find out. No skin off my nose if Labor doesnt win. Im still doing 40 hours a week and getting paid for it. I just wanna see Howard start doing something about climate change and get our Australian troops home.

Our troops over in Afghanistan and Iraq and Timor and all the other places across the world are really only there as Peace-keepers and not as an attacking force. We are there to back up the Americans, Britons, Dutch and whoever else needs us. Two of my brothers are in the army and have been to all of those major places and have come back with some pretty scary stories, however they didn't have a problem in going over there, because it is their job and it is what they are trained to do (in their words) so why should the general public have a problem with them being there. i know that there have been a couple of really tragic incidents of late but compared to the US we are doing pretty well.

Lets put up a banner for both parties so they can contribute!! They are paying for website space everywhere else. Would be nice for Kevin and Johny to sponsor the sport.

It might be a comfort to feel that way about your brothers but our guys are in Iraq killing people. We may be helping our friends but our friends are misguided gun happy tossers. We are a part of an invasion and share the responsibility for the misery arising to date and the ongoing situation - not just the day to day murders there but the polarising of a generation in hatred and militancy.

I blame John for that.

Fair statement, but in all honesty most of what we hear is fabricated propaganda from the media and not the actual facts. there are a lot of things that go on that we don't get told..... And if that is what my brothers want to tell me to stop me from stressing out too much, I am quite happy to live in that deluded world.

Here you go NotWal THIS is what needs to make headline news...not some of the other junk that makes the news these days!!!

It's a tough, but heart-warming story...with a picture of John Gebhardt in Iraq

John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head...but they failed to kill her. She was cared for in John's hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan. The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing.

He is a real Star of the war, and represents what the Western world is trying to do.

This, my friends, is worth sharing with the WORLD! Go for it!!

You'll never see things like this in the news. Please keep this going. Nothing will happen if you don't, but the public needs to see pictures like this and needs to realize that we're making a difference. Even if it is just one little girl at a time.

Yes. There are some things that are black and white and crystal clear and other things shrouded in fog and confusion.

The causes and responsibility are clear. The solution is ... well there is no way to undo the damage. That little girls family isn't going to come back. The solution lies in the realms of picking the best from a bunch of more or less inadequate options. Our "friends" seem to be married to the idea that if they can establish "democracy" then they can withdraw with "honour" - the goebelistic c***s.

The truth is we will withdraw. Those of us who are decent will be more or less fraught with guilt. Most of us wont give a rats ass. Some of us will say "We should have stayed. We would have won" as if winning was the point. We will probably give them some aid, but not so much that it will put us out in the slightest.

Evil doesn't come with horns and a tail. It comes with an avuncular smile an a promise to make us wealthy and comfortable.

Who CARES if Paris Hilton does something STUPID once again! People watch ET for that kind of dribble.

Take it off the actual 'NEWS' that matters to Australian people. I'm with mytchook on this! At least shoe some of the positivies out of the negatives which happen! ALL we EVER get in news is BAD BAD BAD.... far out, sit down before, after or during dinner and be bummed/ depressed after it! In all seriousness, ANY good news is usually left to the last 15 seconds, and once again its OBVIOUS which network station supports which labor-liberal team!

What happened to NON-BIAS news reports, ACTUAL journalists with degrees reporting on things which MATTER!

What we should be worried about is the starvation of children in africa because of the corrupt governments over there. Sure people recon we (our government) are corrupt, but its not that bad. Look over there.More important stuff than basically religion and money fueled war.

Couldn't have put it better...

It is true that a lot of well intentioned armed forces (and volunteers) are in these hot spots, the facts do remain though that in Iraq they are an invasion force (does anyone remember Vietnam here) that has entered under a false pretense of riding the valient white horse to the rescue (getting rid of those world threatening WMD thingies-remember those?) and ridding the world of an evil do-er killing and torturing (you know like in Abhu Garib) his own people.. you know like that poor girl and her family that lived in relative safety and had access to education, food and amenities etc... I think most people (on bothe sides of the fence) do know. It just depends how much you can ignore in your focus on a mortgage/boat/SUV etc etc etc

Here is another fact. It was pure lies on behalf of the govt (and the opposition by complacency and lack of alternatives in case they lost votes - which they did anyway???) that convinced anyone of any reasons to go in... Oil is simply it. Like global warming I think everyone knows they reality and it is a little bit hard to swallow and fess up to.

As for media bias. It is very real.

Think about this... the current govt are attempting to place advertising on the only broadcaster that does not have to cower to the mighty corporate $$$. Poor old SBS used to be free to say what they meant now they are siezed my the advertising shorties.. The ABC will be next... that will be goodbye to 75yrs of holding the govt of the day (of either persuasion) to account. Is that safe? I don't think so.

I truly am not comfy with either major party for the record.. I despise what the Libs have done to this country, and the greedy, xenophobic attitudes they have fostered over the past decade (in a time that we could have been generous to our schools/hospitals/neighbours) but I definately couldn't have voted Labour (so i voted independant and green) in the last couple of elections because the ALP -and Beasly in particular - were a spineless rabble. That has changed with Rudd and others and so should we now I reckon.
