Shiit has really hit the fan in WA. Im writin from the Cabarete and ive just read thru the whole thread and i cant believe it. I think that it is awesome to here that we have a slider at Woodies. it is probably the best spot in Aust to hav it maybe even rank in the world. Cant wait to hav a go. Good work Dale! Has there been any problems with it yet? Has ne1 yet heard of any probs with kitin at Woodies from CALM? Surely not cos i cant see any probs. I still think Woodies would've made a good spot for the NATS, especially with the slider. But all good.

Hows the weather in your side of the world? Is it is good as it looks, gusty or steady?

Have a wicked time over there adam, see you when you get back.(when is that)

somebody has buld a mobile slider here at wellington point. I don't know who built it or who owns it and i haven't had a go yet, but i am a bit frightened to try because i saw one guy slip off and bang his bum bone on it. Luckily the water is only knee deep because he looked in agony for a while and might have drowned. It has been there for a month or so now. It is in a spot where no one can use a boat because it is always very shallow, but like pseudo, i do get concerned that unless the council was apporached about it, we may be stirring the pot a bit. We already have a ban on rigging kites on the grass-foreshore in our spot here, and there is now a general negative aura that seems to have developed about the sport. I don't see too many beach goers pointing and smiling at us anymore, and I think we have become a general pain in the ass to most locals.

well , i think all the people out there who are genuinely concerned should just ask the f uncn councils, and tell calm, then maybe you could fu c it for the rest of us and bann kiting ompletely, and if your not gonna do that caus you old men, it ain't your slider , it aint your problem , and if it is still your problem and you wont talk to council or calm about it , are you suggesting for us to remove our slider , incase calm find it , so they don't tell us to move it..... no way,,, it's a free world , there is no FINE for placeing PVC in the water, ignorance is no excuse , but no court on earth would convict or take it serious.

, chillout dude, the pepl who put the slider put all their effort into gettn it there , they will get told off and thats all
if anything

so don't wet your country road pants, geriatric brigade, the baggy pant mob have it under control! We will cop the heat like real men we are

I think the ** is starting to mix with logic here .
Everybody is talking about "extreme" and "hard core" , I like to kite because the landings are soft unlike freestyle motocross or vert skating or freestyle skijumping ect ect . As for the sliders , I think they are great and we should get as many of them as we can , this will hopefully take away the crowd factor at the wave spots (personal preferance).
As for sliders being dangerouse , go down to your local skate park (built by the local council )and have a look at all the steel sliders that they have with concrete under them .
haven't seen any accident reports with sliders involved yet , seen a lot that involve winter storms .
I realise that this thread is just some guys stirring each other up and generally trawling for bites ,however a lot of people are reading and following it , some with limited experience . The reason for my reply is to remind everyone to try and think straight at a time when we are all going a bit stircrazy because of lack of water time . There are some heavy fronts coming through at the moment and I am constantly looking for a break so I can go out , however before I decide to go out I think about Mick Eastland and then I decide if it is as safe as I think it is .
Respect to Mick who was an experienced kiter who was prepared to have a go but made ONE bad judgement call .
Sorry to bring down the energy levels but this is when the real danger is and this will cause a lot more ** than a piece of plastic pipe in knee deep water .
P.S. If you want to be a hardcore rebel man and stir up some ** , put your name to it otherwise you will just be another faceless gutless wonder living in your own lunchbox.

but more factors come in the situation than just a kiter hurting themselves on it. There is the "what is that in our water" attitude that locals seem to have, "what if it washes up on the beach or into the boating channel" attitude, and so many more excuses that people find to complain about. They are things that seem so pissweak to us, but do influence the eventual outcomes of situations like bannings.

It sounds like bullshiite to some, but at least notifying councils is worth it in the long run.

I have a contact for the big inflatable slider used in wake comps.
The owner said we could use it from time to time under supervision, and any damage costs would need to be meet by us.
The thing takes a bit of time to get ready so we'll need help to set it up, but im sure we could organize a slider week end or two. note: CALM need min 3 months notice to do somthing like this.
if there is any one who wants to help here ill get the ball rolling.
this should also stop crew sliding on my super duck....

Piss weak, geez good comeback dude ,what a typical "grown up " respone , "baggy pant mob this", "slider that" ," I'm a real man, caus i go out in 1 metre waves", thats right 6 foot sets when it's blowing 30 kts, get real, you **** , but your scared! of going on a slider.., as some1 may get hurt, yeah only if their over 40 with fragile bones!
And as far as going out in big waves. I doub't you've ever seen waves as big as the ones over east which are cranking all summer, im talking 3 metre plus sets, 3 minute long rides, the Proppa ****.
but you can have your fun old man style sailing back and fourth, like a 1940's outrigger, in that slop that you get when it is blowing 30 kts.

The "winter beaches" oh yeah, you the man man, you must be for going out in that, like the dude who lost his half finger when he went out under the black clouds a few weeks ago. (no offense dude)
I go out in "winter weather" all the time, and i kite 1 legged on 15 - 20 foot sets

" when you can do a front mobe, back kite loop, board off, and land 1 footed " then i'll believe that old folks are as hard core, as the baggy pant mob who actually make the sport look good, and go out of their way to make a slider, to get sritisized by a load of grumpy old men"

You tosser,I feel like hunting you down and killing you like the DOG you are. If you were to come over to the west and you talked to me as tough as you type on the forum, and i am hoping you do, i would rip youre head off. I am in my thirtys and take offence to any tosser that thinks he can bag people out who he dosent even know. By the way you talk i would say you must be 13 maybe 14 because us grown ups realise that our sport has nothing to do with age and moves that we are able to do. Our sport is all about the stoke that we feel at the end of a session. The same stoke shared by surfers and windsurfers and i hate to say it but even bodyboarders.
This is just a guess but i bet you are a boogie boarder because an accomplished surfer would not dribble the **** that you do about people he dosent even know.
PS If you are coming to WA email me we can catch up. , maybe you can prove to me that youre a man and not the child that you sound like.

G'day Peoples,

Been interesting as a windsurfer reading this ongoing thread been some good discussion as well as having the holier than thou crew putting their two cents in.

I've a good mate who is a kiter who's dimm dark skateboarding past has been hanging for sliders and various other hard pieces of gear to bounce of in the water.

Knowing a few people in councils though I believe the people who rigged this should contact the relevant department, on the whole these people are generally fairly easy to get on with.

Take your design and some info about what you've done to them and if you've can get some names and rational comments together from the rest of your crew, they will most likely give official sanction to it. They may ask for a slight modification to it to make sure it is stable and unlikely to break.

The other alternative is that they are oblivious to it until someone complians about it or an accident happens.

Once the local council or CALM are aware of the existance of this item they have a "Duty of Care" to do something about it, else the are open to litigation if anything goes pairshaped.

Look at the Pillock who broke his neck at Cot then tryed suing the council, Didn't succeed (Just) but cost council money and probably hit them in their insurance premiums.

Also I don't know what the personal liability would be for the originaters of this equipment but I think they could also be sued should someone be injured or the device goes wandering during a storm and ends up creating havoc in some place it shouldn't be.

To save a lot more WAFTAM discussions re this matter, have a chat "with the Man", it's not as scary as you think.

Imagine how cool it would be to be able to legitamately expand on the idea and have it like a wet skate park with all sorts of wierd and wonderfull gear to test yourselves on

I'll just go back to being a Foge on my windsurfer.

Good luck to the dudes.

Alby
