sounds like the go. Just need some one to paddle it around while we slide off it.
Wondering how the average board will stand up to a slider session. Do people that use sliders regularly have an old board they use just for sliding or are boards more resiliant than i think.
Hey Viper you didnt miss out on much yesterday, we were kidding ourselfes there just wasnt anough wind for my old 14 metre. But if we had youre new 21 and 18 up it would have been a different story.

Yeah mate it's killing me to stay at home when I look out the kitchen window and the winds cranking enough for all the big betty's in my quiver....DAM THIS FLU!!!!

Also your board should stand up to the sliding well as the bottom is coated with a film called "PBT" which add's a tough surface preventing acceleration of wearing, over a long period of time it will wear just like all the others, you cant stop that.....

The only good this about having the flu is I can stay home and clean the kayak/slider down for us to use when I'm better.

Anyone else want a portable slider ??
I've got a 4.5 metre all plastic kayak that would do the trick perfectly (an ex-favourite toy going cheap)
I'll post the details on 'buy & sell'

? 4 strings ?

well then you did very well didnt U !! (Rsole) !!
I can only ask ...
Is Viper really a complete asp
or just a plain old snake-in-the-grass
OR BOTH
give us a break man -
MY portable slider is state of the art stuff !
the ALPHA kayak is the the SLING SHOT of the portable slider market !
You cant buy stuff like this cheap on the internet U know
Its fully pre-scratched AND you get 2 see before you buy
and if you dont like it after you buy it
you can always on-sell it to some other sucker
Actually i reckon you should snap it up yourself so you will still have a fall back to rely on when your $30 fibreglass float cracks up and sinks mid session [}:)]
ring me if you want a great deal

na i've already invested in a large fibre glass kite from bunnings for those times ahead, besides i'm planning on it. I'm saving my pennies now for one of those inflatable ones from the states cost around $851 US.....thats about $1200 OZ

OK, since my last post I've been doing a little hunting from the wake boarding world here in Perth. Found some interesting thing that if we do right off the bat will elevate our image with the guys at DPI & CALM.

Here's what I found out:

a group of wake boarders had spent some time negotiating with DPI to have a area of water on the river (freeway side of deep water point) to be available to sliders only. Now they had rules to obey or they would be banned; eg, helmets to be worn, spotters in the boats etc. Needless to say a rouge element came in and ****ed it up, they were caught without a spotter and argued a $100 fine. The end result was the area was banned.

another area these guys faught for is the burswood speed boat/ski ramp area just up river of the causeway. Well they faught for it and live by the rule's imposed and the end result is they can pretty much have what they want in the water all the time.

the advice i was given from my source is this; we 1st need to set up a club. Yes we have WAKSA, however I do not think it's fair that it's left to these guys as they have enough on their plates. What I have in mind is we form a club at woodies (seeing as this spot is the most favorable by your selves). Now I can hear what your thinking all ready, "I'm not paying for another membership", I agree but this is what i propose, to obtain membership all you need is to prove your a member of WAKSA. Then I shall donate my screen printing skill's (very basic) and print a logo for a very small donation (time & service's, will explain later) on any old t-shirt you may have (cost's you nothing).

The reason for having proof of WAKSA membership is many; 1# gets you insurance cover (ask WAKSA for detail's on spacific's) 2# you can come in from anywhere around WA and ride also as hey it's a free country and woodies is for everyone not just locals 3# If you feel pasionate about your local area or other areas you will belong to a body that can have a louder voice with you in it. 4# it's only $60 off memory.

If this seems ok to you, dont just sit back and think na someone else will do it then your mistaken. However if you guys just voice your opinions via E-Mail Me
[email protected] (please make them constructive) then I will do my best to head this up my self (any helpers are welcome)

Your thinking whats in it for me, NOTHING, ZIP, NADA.....

Your thinking whats in it for you, well it should be obvious, a place we can call home to kitesurfing, hopefully a place where we can have a slider, wether inflatable, portable, fix or solid.

Now what it will cost you (time & service) this is what we could do to show the powers that B we could 1# meet with them if need be down at woodies (more numbers show were united and serious) 2# offer them somthing in return, our time in helping to take care of the area, policing WAKSA safety rule's to newcomers etc ...

anyway I've run out of thing to say to you all at present, so please read this, think about it, then post replies and emails....

Sounds all good viper. You know you can count me in, and i'm sure the rest of the Scarb locals will give support. Really really keen to get this thing of the ground. I know shannon could take some photos and mock them up[ on his mac to show people what a few sliders etc, would look like at woodies. ideas got life in it yet. optimism ++++

the problem with telling them you have a fixed slider, and making a stink about it, rather than not telling them and using your own whenever and wherever you want is that.. at the moment it isn't regulated.. if you tell them then it will become regulated....ie all of us will have to go and buy $150 gaf helmets for no reason, because somewhere once apon a time, someone fell of, hit his head on the slider, and got K.O'd... i say no reason caus of the 4-5 years kiting i have never been stupid enough to land on my head, or unlucky enough...

but the point is it's my descision, and i feel if you feed this up the chain , some people mite not appreciate what regulation falls out of it, helmets, impact vests, st John ambulances, double safetys, jet ski recue boats, on standby... if it's you own slider...you can do what you want with it... but if you try and let "them" take ownership or legal responsibility of it they will in order to cover their own arse.. make it as safe as suits them and not us the riders as AKSA did when they said safeties are compulsary in competition, ( which i think was a good move), . I'm sure if they find out 6 months down track that there's a slider there, and noone has been injured, they would have a harder time regulating it given 30 + kiters probably use it all the time allready, than if you ask them and they either say " NO " , or even worse if they say yeah and then we get put in the same category as wakeboarders all have to buy helmets , someone doesn't wear a helmet 1 day and then it acutally gets banned...

they can hardly bann it if it hasn't been endorsed? and as someone said earlier in the post... there has been one a peli point for ages??
they just shows huw much they giva a rats arse about the whole subject when their doing more important stuff.

This is my personal opinion, and nothing to do with Cottesloe or WAKSA, I reckon you guys at woodies should just take it easy, do the right thing, stay under the radar and avoid all possible contact with any government authority. Why is this so. The Cottesloe subject has been a long hard road (8 months) of time and energy to get us legal there, and it is still has to go before two more commitee meeetings and passed to get us legal in the Cottesloe shire. We only got talking to the Cottesloe shire after A LOT OF PUBLIC ANTI-KITE letters to the post newspaper to get us removed from the spot. THen the local ranger got us into his gun sites and personally wanted to get us banned ASAP, with apassion. WE have all worked hard( thanks to ALL the Cottesloe kiters for moving to the area south of Rosendo Street)to help get us legal. If you approach any council or government dept before any negitive kite press, you will open a can of **** before it needs to happen.

My personal opinion is to keep low, the slider guys just keep low profile with ya slider. If the **** hits the fan , then get onto to it then. Every one Kiter are aware that this could br an issue, just do the right thing.

At thew Cottesloe Council meeting last thursday, one if the people at the meeting DOES llok at this seabreeze siteand does looks at the forum, and does form opinions from our chatter. He did say he thought the varied opinions on seabreeze were healty and showed kiters were concerned and aware of safety etc, etc.
