The baggy boys may need to remember that the 'old blokes' have got experience here and a bit of foresight that the 'hot shots' may be yet to discover. Sure they may have a bit of a dodgy knee from the 'double axehandle reverse 720 with tripple cheese' they pulled 10 years ago but that's the point. They've been there many years ago, long before we end up doing the same and if common sense or whatever tells them to pull back fine. One things for certain there is no correct style - cruisers or parkies alike can do whatever they like for all I care as long as it doesn't effect anyone else. The youngsters are more likely to be insecure and need to seek external approval in order to prop up their egos and so place more value on busting the baddest moves for the benefit of the onshore viewers or their peers. The cruisers on the other hand may have been there done that & having a more spiritual experience on the water and see it as a form of meditation with the elements. So in the words of the great Dave Grainey 'you've gotta ask yourself who you're living for?'
This is not to say that anyone who does anything new is an insecure dumb@#$% as it's only natural to want to push yourself to learn something new but one who criticises someone or some other syle/preference just because they/it is different IS an intolerant narrow minded dumb*@$%
Now going from the lecture back to the subject. I dont think anyone's worried about people hurting themselves on a bit of PVC when intenionally attempting the latest 'doublecheese burger with extra gerkins' on it. What I gather from this is the possible ammo that someone with an agender against kiters may gather from it. Or not living there (I'm in Melbourne)is it reasonable to ask about the possibity of some other water user, such as a poler, running into it on the wrong tide?
People on this forum may fall back on 'no disrespect intended, we're just having a bit or fun' But at the end of the day some people here are getting hot under the collar and need to remember its not what you say but how you say it that matters.
You dont want to end up having a rule on 'how to scratch your arse' but you've got to be smart about it maybe someone close to the appropriate authorities can discretely sound them out on the subject before it's bought up officially.

"Dachopper
You tosser,I feel like hunting you down and killing you like the DOG you are. If you were to come over to the west and you talked to me as tough as you type on the forum, and i am hoping you do, i would rip youre head off. I am in my thirtys and take offence to any tosser that thinks he can bag people out who he dosent even know. By the way you talk i would say you must be 13 maybe 14 because us grown ups realise that our sport has nothing to do with age and moves that we are able to do. Our sport is all about the stoke that we feel at the end of a session. The same stoke shared by surfers and windsurfers and i hate to say it but even bodyboarders.
This is just a guess but i bet you are a boogie boarder because an accomplished surfer would not dribble the **** that you do about people he dosent even know.
PS If you are coming to WA email me we can catch up. , maybe you can prove to me that youre a man and not the child that you sound like.

ALLAN"

talk like the "grown up people" like psyudo who says were all "young dum and full of cum" , and that other dude who said " we oldies are the real men, we go out in winter" pfft you must be kidding right, and to clarify since you obviously cant read without your glasses, i said old people over 40, and yes you are under 40 , being 30 something... it goes 1..2...12..14....20..27....38..39....40 +
i could give you a leson if you like
and a kiting lesson too

and i don't hav n e thing against old kiters, just old opinionated, communist , pesemistic pricks, who really couldn't care about the slider, and kiting and only seek to show the negative side of a good thing.

Thank God - a reasoned response - 10/10 to Crashtestnotsuchadummy.
"discretely sound them out" may be a way to go IF ANYONE KNOWS SOMEONE ON A PERSONAL LEVEL.
The problem with asking these days is that with all the PC bulls...t & 'duty of care' crap everyones first response is to cover their own R's with a NO regardless of commonsense.
(now in my day when men were real men things were different - but we wont go there hey Laurie - though I did think 'dawanka's +or- 40 was a bit of a joke - Fme I cant even remember being 40 and even now cant wait to score my 1st kite loop ; but I reckon at my age I just might leave the 1 legged landings to 'dahotshot')
ANYWAY my 2 cents worth - if you ask it'll be NO and you will have to loose it till you can argue and win YES ... if you dont ask whoever takes objection is going to have to find a reason WHY NOT.
SO ... keep your trap shut and keep sliding - its just another water toy.
WHATEVER I'm not personally phased either way ... Im just heading off for 2 weeks in Shark Bay
So (whatever your age) you can all just droowl
(gawd hope my fragile old bones can handle it fer f's sake)

I've got a theory that this forum is spawning a new form of language, a sub verson of surf/punk/street/wake/motocross/barefisted street fighting/dope smoking/straight/gay/teen/post 50's/zelot/religious/reality/talk back/internet/funk............Laurie you are right we have decended into a slithering mess of cyber abuse depending what side you are on, but, better we talk and abuse... than not to talk at all.... Go to any decent political meeting( watch our leaders on TV)and abuse is at the base of all communication. Long live kiting/ long live all who give a **** enough to write a line or two on Lauries forum, long live Laurie for being bright enough to invent this forum.

Actually if you read the original post Ryland, Pseudonymous only use's reference to "DALE" to bring attension to the "crew" that placed it there, I also read that he made an apology stating that; i quote "I'm not singling you out Dale, Its just you're the only one i recognised from the water....."unquote.

after reading all of the relivant posts on this thread i made a couple of call's to people in the know. From what i found out CALM has every right to ban kiting from the area and most likely will when some one discovers it.

I put this forward to the "baggy pants brigade" as they have now become known as. Have you considered for one moment if someone was to ride into it and hurt them selves; or if it is dismantled and lying under the water when not in use and a windsurfer rides over it and ****s his board or worse hurts him/her self; or a swimmer/diver some how gets in a bingle with it; or one of choicy's students get in a bingle with it; or if it is dismantled and hidden in the bush's/dune's and someones child is playing in the dunes and gets hurt by it, cause if its my daughter that gets hurt i wont call calm i'l be calling around your house with the cops in tow....have you ever stopped to think of the ramifacations of your actions seeing as everyone knows who you all are now for posting your names, thank you very much.....

one other thing i found out, woodmans point conservation land management group is finalizing a proposal for the area. From what i was told this means that WAKSA or local group/commity can approach them to have their agenda sactioned....now, what they wont tell you is that this appears favorable if the said WAKSA/local commity offers to AID in the care for the area and clean up the area, as CALM does not have the numbers of staff to do such things, it would meet favorably with them.....

I understand the "baggy pants brigades" frustration as all they see/read is older guys telling them they cant do this or that at a time when they've only just come to grips with independance and think their worldly as everyone has been telling them the world is their oyster and only to find out in reality that its ran by old farts as they put it.....

DALE - nice effort in building your slider mate but its a sad fact of life that there's a lot of old c#nts out there with no life that would use the "fear of littigation" excuse or "safety of other beach users" excuse to get you, your slider or your sport banned

PSUEDO - Good effort to bring this topic to the forum matey but you done it the wrong way. I kinda think you've been misunderstood though.
Hope you guys can sort it out over a beer someday.

ELMO - Nice to have a level headed and inteligent reply amongst all that flaming! Dale take note?

DACHOPPER - DICKHEAD why dont you stop cumming in your baggy pants and try to get yourself a root for f#ck's sake ive never come across a guy that needs one as bad as you!
P.S. I live in your neck of the woods Numbnuts and i'd love to have a beer with you when you turn 18 maybe teach you a thing or two???

Wait theres more... Plastic and marine debris (PVC is plastic) have been listed as Key threats to the marine environment under the Federal EPBC act - Federel Law. Check out the law on plastics and the marine environment at AMSA - you are in-fact commiting an offence. All plastics or dumping at sea or any "random plastic material left in the environment could be considered under this act - Have fun flamers

of course they've thought of the ramifications, that's why it removable, and not hidden underwater, and if some1's outa control and going to run into it, maybe they sould kite downwind of it?????but you are talking pretty much blackmail right... clean up woodies so you can put your own slider in the water........ If it is removable, and they are there when it is being used, y is it illegal again?
A. it's no littering
B. they can tell little girls not to play on it, so they dont get hurt
c. You can't "not see it" and run into it without first crashing through a wall of kiters anyway.
d its not permanent, so there are as many public littegation aspects as there are if someone walks into your parked car at woodies and breaks their legs...

And you should by me a beer wen i turn 18
and get me some roots aswell

Some respect here to the the young generation in this sport, cause they are the future and they pull the moves, but there is a border line in language, which has been crossed. Also pissed off by eastern states crew starting to post crap they know nothing about, they messed up enough other forums out there.
Slider ok, but make it legal, talk to lokal government, and make a person or group responsible for it

looks like easties have been causing the **** in this thread too

most of the local guys have been saying hey be careful why not talk to local governing bodies so we can actually HAVE the slider and not get BANNED because of it

(noone has actually said they didnt WANT the slider!)

couldnt agree more Ray lets make it legal, I recon we should have a barbq down at woodies one fine arvo "soon" to discuss this matter inorder to come up with an approach to head off and discuss with the conservation land management group inorder to get it made a kite zone...

I recon if we also got choicy in on it to he may have some very good points and the fact he has one of the best schools around would also help i think....

oh yeah easter staters **** off and clean up your own beach's

sorry for taking an interest in this poor dudes slider...
It is his slider right, so he or they(whoever made it) has the right to do whatever he wants and let whoever he or they want on it..... Alot of what has been said on this thread is a load of winter **** wind no kiting crap
most of it by me !

but the fact is it is their slider, they own it, they made it, they decide who uses it, and noone else has the right to take ownership of it except them, and trying to enforce your own views on how it should be used is a little heavy handed, when you have nothing to do with it now or in the first place

if it gets banned it gets banned... its only a slider, and the slider won't cause kiting to be banned, dickheads kiting near swimmers, and letting their kites land on main roads and practising irresponsible kiting is the only real thing that will get it banned.
has any1 used it yet?? and is it any good???/

Sorry Shannon, I got so worked up at the irresponsible comments i was reading that i acted out of character.
I have always respected all the differnt prefrences people choose to ride the waves. I grew up over east, and while growing up I rode body boards, surf skies and surfboards at Sydney's Narrabeen beach. I always disliked the attitude that surfers gave bodyboarders, believing truly that just being out there no matter what you ride was the true essence of surfing.
But like most board riders i am frustrated by the congestion of bodyboarders at any good break. But thats life.
Shannon I love youre work (FIRE AWAY), and like to think that in a year or so i would be at a good enough level to attract the camera you use so well.

P.S i spoke with Viper today and we both think that the kiters who enjoy kiting at Woodies should meet for a BBQ, and discuss issues that are starting to affect this unique Kite surfing location. It could be organised on this forum. Any body who feels the same way make youre voices heard.
Regards Allan

I did offer to get a proper slider set up for Woodies, but it cant be done alone
somthing good may come of this thred yet. if we can arrange a meeting of woodies locals and Jazon from CALM we'll be on the right track...
We should be able to have a meeting at the JB sailing club, so let me know the numbers of who are intrested to join a working group for Woodman Point so we can set a date/ time, also we'll need to have an adgenda.
Any more thoughts?

Here's some interesting memorabilia: I was talking to the guy who runs the hobbie club there a few years ago, and he told me of a time when jetski's were the latest craze, and the jetskiers wanted the spot so bad, that they all started purchasing membership to the hobbie club with the hope of outvoting the hobbie sailors, so they could turn the club into a jetski home! (it has got excellent bbq facilities )

already tried that a couple of years ago, the club members are very protective of there club there even thou they are short of members.

I think choicey has a membership at the club so we have a mole, the other great thing about the place is that you can camp on the grass over the weekend out of the wind for the fam-damily.

mmmmmmm slider is that not what the rocks are for, can we rig one up so that we can slide over the spit...... The super duck is the best slider at woodies just need choicey to get the oars out for a up ramp

What ever happened to those Jetskiers anyway? They seem to have been banned into extinction? Only allowed at the narrows bridge and Point Walter and a few other spots .. might see one a year at Woodies .. I saw one up at Mullaloo last year, and the ranger waved him into shore and gave him a ticket!

I take it that the slider will be put in on the north side right??

Its probaly just as important to consider where abouts on the north side it sits. If it goes upwind of where a majority of people kite (westerly end of the north side), the 'baggy pants brigade' may find they have more opposition to it as people start stacking it more and more.
