These are from things I have read, seen or heard about. Im not an authorative expert (one of the few things im not on) on crossbows as I dont actually own one.

Ok.

Splitting struts.
Broken bar end leading to release of rear line.
Bridles wrapping around tips of kite.
Kite flying inverted and turned inside out.
Kite inverting in flight suddenly.

Inverting happens when you are in high winds flying the kite fully depowered on the strap, power up on the bar to jump, and then while in the air you quickly let out the bar (to 100% depower).

It can also happen when you loop the kite fully depowered.

You learn not to do these things.............duh.

To address some of these points

With regards to splitting struts happend on first x-bows that were released.

Basically the stitching on the centre struts in particular were at fault. Cabrinha have since replaced and/or repaired these early models and the stitching is now reinforced on all struts.

This actually happend to my one, centre strut was busting big time, in fact the bladder was poking its head through. So i got in touch with Windsurfing perth where i bought it. not only did Reg and Dan take my kite back, and agree to replace it with a new one, but they have actually leant me another bow until the new ones, with reinforced struts comes back.......great customer service really pleased.

Inverting, yeah they invert but gruezi explains why and how to avoid this. i also find pumping HARD is the way to go. Only ever happend to me twice.

Cant comment on the other stuff as never happend to me.

slave,
I think phil was elduding to your overwhelming 'expertise' in kiting technology and marketing that appears in 95% of your posts. You talk like a prophet!
Oh knowledgeable one, what is the next progression in kiting technology? Please enlighten me? I'm sure you have an idea. I'm sure you have an idea, will voice it, then will tell everyone how they are wrong and how kite companies are getting it wrong.

Get over it mate. Get over yourself maybe?

As for the new kites...
Go kiting progression!!

Hung Long,

I found this disclaimer on the Cabrinha website.

WARNING:
At the time of packaging, all Crossbows contain 100% safety.
However, during shipping some danger will leak in and contaminate the kite. LOL

quite honestly i dont know what the fuss is all about. they just dont feel as direct.

not for me. different strokes i guess.

and someone said 'its only inverted on me twice' !?!
that would be twice to many for me.

I want a kite that inverts!

I agree kites should not invert no matter what, saying its happened only a few times is no excuse. Don't some bows have relaunching issues aswell????? like if they fall down face first.

Has anyone tried the switchblade? maybe thats better?

Not true - I've had my bow invert several times pumped up so hard I thought it might burst - which it probably will soon.

Thats what we're striving for at bestkiteboarding...

What? Actually putting in more than a couple of hours of R&D before releasing a kite to the customer?

Already you are sprouting crap about your own bow! Demo, yeah great, so it can blow up in my face - real safe!

But then again, I would love to walk into your shop, have a look around, you offer me a coffee and we could have a chat about... the alternative you were offering me instead of my Crossbow... The same kite which has allowed me simplify my quiver; lengthing the time I spend on the water; safely handle gusty conditions; elevate my confidence and most importantly, maximised my fun factor.

I think it may be sour grapes on your behalf - missing the boat.

You realise probably just as many crossbows have ****ed up as hell fish's. People just haven't gone into panic mode returning em cuz in they have good PR. Poor Relative has had his replaced, and we've all heard about other cross bows screwing up, poor relative said there was a dud batch.

Hung Long wasnt heven talking up the B bow he was talking it down if anything. Will any one ever get over the hell fish, did any of you actually fly it or witness it explode??? I have a Best nemisis and it is great.

I can't beleive this thread is gonna be a sticky thread, don't do it laurie!

The kite that in reality, cant fly right, spontaneously combusts, looks crap and is generally a dog.

No i doubt anyone will get over the hell fish.

why would you bother with best its like buying a brand new car, it breaking down beyond repair, then going and buying another car from the same dealer made of the same stuff that broke down.

Yeah i'm really excited about the new line of carbon fibre crap the best boys are developing???

hung long reckons best learnt a lot from the hellfish, fk me one would sure as hell hope so, its not rocket science.... but then here he is hyping the next batch of cack....bring it on HL bring it on.
Maybe it would be like a sheet to put under the doona....

....anyway i'm over all this i was hoping for a bitta discussion about where kite design is going, how the bow could be tweaked to be better, is there a halfway between bow and c that is the way to go or what,
unfortunatly its all turned to ****
bit like the hellfish i suppose.

i'm happy on my bow, am really into it 100% yeah it has its nuances, but then again show me a c that doesnt do wierd stuff from time to time.

I suppose its horse for courses and all that...and it dont suit everyone.

narrow minds though do my head right in, at least give the kite a chance, give it a good blast in decent wind and then voice an educated opinion rather than all this crap.

If you wanna fly and see me on the beach am happy to oblige.
god i want a cig

IMHO BEST are great at copying a design and getting it to the market cheap. But - they arent the innovators.

Like the Monkey I ride a 3 kite Nemesis quiver and I couldn't be happier - they are a seriously fun kite, well built and have stood the test of a couple of seasons use. They helped bring the price of new kites down for all of us - but perhaps more importantly deflated the used kite price market so that now almost anyone can get on the water second hand with kite, board and gear for less then $1K.

With the 'bows I will be doing exactly what I did with the 'fish. Sit back - observe - wait for the riders to iron out the bugs and improve on the user unfriendly bits and then maybe buy the generation 2 model.

I also dont think with the "C" style kites that there is that much more improvement in them. 5th line was the last real step forward & even then I dont fly with it all the time - just when conditions dictate it would be useful.

But then again - I'm happy driving a '95 Diesel Discovery when other kiters want the latest WRX. Viva la difference !

One day - hopefully never - when my kites are holding me back, I may consider being at the leading edge and riding the newest and greatest, but till then I'm happy to ride BEST "C" kites - the Toyota Corolla of the kiting world

Ciggies are gross, glad to hear your giving em up
Just think of all the money they waste, substitute your nicotine addiction with your kiting addiction. Think if you didnt smoke for a year how much money you would save for new kites

Poor Relative,

Have any pulleys worn square yet ?
How about lines chaffing because of the square pulley ?

I saw a bow with this problem at my local just recently.

Whats with these losers that bash bows ??

I am in a heavily populated area ,with a lot of kites, and a lot of Crossbows.
I have yet to see or hear of a problem with them.
Ask someone(an actual person that owns a bow )what they think, and they will tell you how much they like them !

The basher losers just keep quoting the same old inverting excuse, without actually knowing exactly where they heard it,only that it was on a Forum.

No,there isnt as many dud kites as there were Hellfish.
All the Hellfish were complete duds. There may be a dud bow somewhere in the World from the thousands actually out ripping it up,but from where I'm looking, its all good.

Funny how the bashers always end up with something like:
" Anyway I am happy with my Yarga."

Guess that really shows where they are coming from !

As I've already said - I own a bow and it does invert and catch itself in the bridle. I'm not getting rid of my bow but I far prefer my rhinos.

Last year i purchased 3 new 2005 fuels 11,13,15 and I find them to be great kites and they give me a kiting wind range from 15knots through to 30knots. Even though i have been kiting for 3 years i still think i can get a hell of a lot more experience while riding under these C kites. I have watched the Xbows in action and they look great and are certainly the way of the future. BUT they are the first of the a new generation and there will be many improvements to come. Im no millonaire and not good enough to be sponsored so Im going to wait until the other kite manafactures catch up to speed and bring out there improved versions. Then Im in for sure.

maybe the resell value of the new xbows might drop as well when the improved versions come out even from Cabrinha.I guess it wont worry the lucky ones who can afford to update every year.
