Sorry mate - didn't realize that laceys lane was a dc team rider. Guess I was a bit out of line then questioning the credentials of one of australias best shapers team riders.

i am definitely not a team rider,no where good enough, dale doesn't have any. i do hang out and help out with some things, but i still pay for just about everything. just a surfboard junkie anyway, i was just putting it out there for discussion on the subject of board design. the no ones turning fast enough thing was just to catch attention

ps dale does have a base of loyal supers and he probably get what he needs out of them. murry burton used to say he got more out of average/good surfers than his team riders on how boards were going

I tried to get Muzza into SUP as I was sure if he got the bug his crazy imagination and design trip would have pushed design as much (or more?) than most. Lent him my board, paddle, organised other boards for him etc etc.

Turns out he likes just paddling around the creek with his Grandsons on the nose, the floatier the better. Aaaah well.

SUP's fit into BASE's production like square pegs in round holes anyway......

None of us the ride Dale's boards are "team riders". We all pay for our boards and in our different ways have that Surfer/Shaper relationship.

Dale has made a very wide range of boards for me over the years(traditional thrusters, 5-fins, 7-fins, Eggs, rhino-chargers, traditional SUP, high performance SUP, ultra distance SUP...). He always listens to my input and even if he does not agree with my ideas (like the 7-fin) he is still willing to give them a go.

As Dale is a very good short board and SUP surfer his input is also invaluable in the development process. We are lucky to have so many of these shapers around that are willing to have a go. We are also lucky to have guys like Lacey who are putting things out there and throwing in their ideas. The sport has progressed at such a fast rate because of these types of people around the world having a real dig.

More of it! Don't hold back...
