Well well well, this certainly is an interesting offering from PPC. Full double skin para with a trim/ brake line that gives it low end as good or better than a single skin. They are claiming crazy wind ranges 12-30+ knots for a 3.5m, 10-28 knots for a 4.5m !!! Also saying it should still pack away well. Sounds amazing! I don’t know if all these things are possible at the same time but it would be cool if they are.

Early on in winging PPC held back a bit then knocked it out of the park with their release of the Surge wing. The 3.8m v1 surge is still my most used and all time favourite wing. Although I never really invested in the much newer fancier wings because the Surge just kinda did what I needed it to do.

It looks like PPC are attempting to do the same thing with their release of the Orbit. They are later than most but have brought something totally different than what is currently available. It’s different enough that I personally would need to see a fair few independent reviews and rider feedback before I would invest in one. Prices are already up on OTB Marine and they are a couple hundred more than an ozone so definitely not cheap!

I certainly hope this wing can live up to the claims they are making because if it does it will really ( ok I’m gonna say it) Change the Game!!

Interesting concept but agree and will wait this one out a bit. Simon down here is a PPC dealer so may get a demo when they finally roll up.

I understand the advantages of a double skin but due to the fact I fall off in waves a bit the relaunch does worry me.

Yeah sheps gave me a go on his 777 hybrid the other day and the performance was epic. I did crash once though and had a bit of trouble getting the water out and relaunching it. Not a problem for the bumps I’m in but could be very messy in real waves..

I could see myself having a quiver with double skin or hybrid for UWDW and a low aspect single skin for waves and downwinders.

Holy crap I didn’t realise it’s a double skin. I was questioning the patent pending but if this wing is that easy to control as in the video it will be totally amazeballs. Ay caramba

That looks a lot like the Peter Lynn "sleeping bag" I was kiting on 25 years ago. The parawings I have tried so far are very unstable in gusty winds. The cool thing about Peter Lynn kites was the stability and the auto-zenith, as long as you left it alone it would just fly directly above your head.

The 4.5m would make an epic ocean upwind/downwind machine if lives up to Sam’s hype on MattonFoil podcast.

with a 2.7 stashed in belt, covered for 14 to 40 knots

The bridle looks complicated and I wonder if that and the double-skin may it difficult to relaunch. Some real-world user feedback would be very helpful.

Best days for testing are dwindling fast, if not gone already. I really feel like the monster days out east that are most common in the spring are when I would like to really test these things.

I imagine there will still be difficulty here, but I don't know if that's a major deterrent for me at least. I find that reps make me better at things. Working towards proficiency is also more rewarding than the easy button in my experience.

The big question is genuinely how good the cleat idea is going to work and if the published wind ranges are legit or not. 12 knots for a 3.5m is super ambitious. I hope that's not a dramatic overstatement of how low the every day rider can use it.

No link just info

PPC “Para Sack”
Pair the Orbit with our PPC “Para Sack” stash belt and make your parawing experience truly hands-free.
Features include:
Secure magnetic lock system to keep the wing safely stowed
Larger storage pouch for easier packing
Integrated hook attachment
Safety knife included

12 to 30+ knots for the 3.5 sounds ridiculous. But if true I am in.

*wing range subject to board and foil size. I'm guessing you are gonna need +25L on the board and a 1300 foil to get a 3.5m going in 12kts. Regardless, I'm pretty excited about the Orbit, I'm a huge fan of the BRM Paia, and have been somewhat disappointed with S3. I was hoping for a Paia 2.0 from Greg which doesn't look like it will happen. The Orbit looks like it could be the 2.0 version of the Paia, looking forward to reading the reviews.

Subject to foil and board 😀I have the same range on the pocket rocket v2 4,3m . (ok to be honest 12 to 28 knt) .

This!

I loved the 3.1m Paia (sadly it went back to the shop) but the number of days I was able to ride it in its sweet spot was so few. There's a bunch of 3.8 paias available dirt cheap now and I am super tempted but if I can get a 3.5 or even 2.7 Orbit with way more low end but the same dreamy speed/stability upwind I'm sold.

To be honest, I find it a bit hard to believe that the Orbit, as a double-skin wing, is supposed to have a vastly better low end than every other double-skin wing on the market.
I've ridden the Triple Seven PT and the BRM Paia. I love these wings for their excellent upwind performance and their very forgiving high-end behavior. However, as pretty much everyone has reported, their low-end performance is genuinely poor.
So, the development is clearly moving in the right direction, and they seem to understand what needs to be improved. But I'm skeptical that simply shortening the back lines can result in such a dramatic improvement in low-end performance—at least until real-world reviews prove me wrong.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the first genuine reviews.

I'm more interested in the PPC "para sack" anyone seen any pics of it? Its mentioned on the PPC website but no pictures? Hopefully will be priced a bit more competitively then their
parawings.

On the up on foil podcast the PPC owner Sam kept saying 15-30 knots range for the 3.5m. I think the 12 knot low end is a bit unrealistic but Sam certainly seemed confident about the 15 to 30 knots range which would be an impressive wind range.

If 15 was solid, with me on a -10l mid length and 700ish foil I would be thrilled. I also want to know the expected low end for the 2.7 and 2? I'm wondering if there is a super power that comes from a double skin having the PAL system that harnesses the wind better.

I would really love to try one of this PW. The 4.5 looks like a do it all wing for our Mediterranean conditions... Really wondering how much it weight, that is quite a good parameter to know how small it packs....

Torn on pulling the trigger on a 2.7, which would honestly be the best size for me. Just wish they would state an estimated low end. Or waiting for a 3.5 which would open my range up a lot more. Decisions decisions....

Brian,

Looking forward to an update.
Ive got 5.7 PR v2, quests 4.5/3.5 and 3m PR v2 but also need a 2.5.

If 2/3 of these would cover me for the lot, that would be great.

PS glad ur enjoying the 720S, its one of my favourites

Mike
