You won't regret it, however consider spring or autumn over summer when the waves are more consistent and bigger.

We did have some great days John, but you are being modest. As I know you were riding bombs that there close to mast high and making it look easy in those "Gentle Giants".

You and I have the same opinion.
Of course most foils will work most of the time as folks do go out a play around in big swell on bigger foils. However even on a head high day if I want to come down a fast wave (say one with an interval in the teens) and scream as fast as you can into a powered up bottom turn I have more fun with a smaller turnier foil. But that is just me. I find on a bigger lifter foil you don't come down the wave as fast and if there is too much lift its harder to control.

The side shore wind at Kanaha is a game changer for riding waves. Instead of flagging the sail, you ride waves like a windsurfer, you keep the power in the sail and sheet in a toeside bottom turn and only sheet out about half way through the heelside cut back off the top of the wave. Linking multiple bottom turns and cutbacks on one wave feels fantastic. My Slingshot Phantasm 899 was perfect until the waves got over 2m.

Flying with gear is a complete pain in the arse. Especially when you have to manhandle luggage from international baggage collection through customs and then onto a different and distant domestic terminal ( eg Honolulu).

Are you flying, if so you'll struggle to keep the combined weight under 32 kgs.
3 kg Bag
13 kg 2 boards
13 kg 4 sails
2 kg boom
4 kg 2 masts
2 kg harness
2kg extension & mast base

I flew to Maui last year. The most I could fit in a flying objects roller bag was 1 foil board, 3 sails, 2 masts, 1 boom and waist harness without spreader bar. I could just close the zipper and it weighed 31 kg

The cut down mast and extension will be slightly stiffer than the equivalent 430 mast and extension with the 5.7 & 6.6. Conversely the cut down mast and extension will be slightly less stiff than the original 460 and extension with the 7.7. Will this matter? The purists will say it does. The reality is that you or your dad will probably not notice.

Typically a 4 cam race sail improves top end when compared to the same / similar size 2 cam sails. Bottom ends of similarly sized sails would be the same. Hence being a bigger sail, the bottom end of a Moto 8.4 would be better than the bottom end of a Mach 7.8

Is the board structure compromised and what do you suggest to do? I am still using the board on the water because its my only board and the weather is nice to sail :/
I plan on repairing it myself by grinding off the area and finish it with a few layers of epoxy and glass mat.

Looks like structural failure of the bottom composite. At a minimum, you'll have to remove at least a 200 mm band of composite across the board in line with the cracks, feather the edges back to good material and reinstate the composite. Others with more experience can advise on appropriate layups for reinstating the composite.

I haven't been able to upload images from my Android phone to GPSTC for a while. I've noticed that others are able to post an image of their tracks on Google earth from KA72 to their GPSTC post of their session. Does anyone do this by phone and if so how do you do it?

I want the flying carpet experience, hate it when you lose stability underfoot. Doesn’t matter if i chase knots or work on upwind 360, I want to be able to push down on that foil and step on it. And stay pitch stable. I put the cl just behind the front straps, a little more behind if there are braking waves

what really killed the windfoil game was the idea that tuttle was good enough. While wingers got tracks and developed, windfoilers struggled with the front wing locked just in front of the back strap, unable cruise, gybe or climb upwind. Useless gear, total waste of money. No wonder they went to winging.

I ride many spots with this set up as long as theirs 15 knots+++ All over the Sf bay area and Baja Mexico. Yes it is a quiver just a easy one...

most people moved over to wing because they are wimps....

I have the Magic Carpet Ride....

In my foiling journey I went from tuttle, to jack plate, to twin tracks. I've often used different brand boards and foils and the jack plate and twin tracks allow for different foil and fuselage dimensions, foot strap and sail mast base positions and stab shimming, etc. I installed my own twin tracks on my Predator 110 when the corrosion on the jack plate made it unusable. I wouldn't go back to a tuttle.

Where you sail will have an influence on how small you go. In the mid 80s, I went from a Windsurfer OD to a ~85 litre Wind Action tri fin. But I learnt at a shallow river mouth where you could stand if you stuffed up the gybe. I progressed to small waves in the surf within a couple of months .

There are some good 3 cam sails out there. One of the better sailors at the recent Burrum Windfest used the 3 cam Patrik sail (GT3?) to great effect.

I've compromised, I have front foot straps and one half foot strap at the back. I like the security of the front foot straps and the freedom to move my back foot around when wave riding with the half strap.

I use a Neil Pryde race seat for GPS speed windsurfing, it's low hook helps when committing to a run in overpowered conditions. I use an Ion waist harness for wave wind foiling, where the enhanced freedom helps in committing to tight turns in the waves.

not worried about getting back upwind, can walk if have to.

Battens are made from interchangeable components - tip, middle and end. Ask your fellow sailors if they have any spare battens and find one with a longer tip section and trim to replace your broken section.

The only tricky but is removing the broken tip. If the break is complete, you might have to remove some stitching at the end of the batten pocket in the luff to remove the broken section.

I haven’t had it on the water yet It’s incredibly light, and the design of the new luff sleeve (mast pocket) is really innovative.
Right now, it’s currently the main piece of 'art' in my bedroom. I like to keep it in sight so it’s the first thing I see when I wake up it's the best way to start the day 😂😂😂

Boots are obligatory on Moreton Bay. Too much coffee rock and shellfish. Over time you get used to them, particularly optimising type of boot and setup. I've used Atan boots for over 10 years without issue when windsurfing, however I use quick release foot straps when windfoiling to protect my ankles in an uncontrolled to windward dismount. The Atans are neoprene dipped in latex and no strap. They are the closest feeling I've found to no boots.

I'm using APpro with Garmin 255. I consider myself techy but struggle still to figure out TBWonders data feilds. I'll give it more time one day as many swear by it.
I like that when using APpro i can select either wing or windsurf as this gets ported over to waterspeed and gpsspeedsurfing automatically for some challenges there aswell.
With TBWonder GPSTC data fields i believe they save as activity rather than recognized as wing or windsurf in garmin / waterspeed? I know the activity type can be changed later but it's another step.
I'm told the GPSTC data fields can show distance off alpha 50m gate? Think i gotta get that working. Did gybes of my life the other day and no alphas atall, musta been way wide.

Dave, I agree loading and implementing Andrew's GPSTC data fields is annoyingly counterintuitive, but envy a tech numpty like me has managed to do it twice, albiet with much cursing and swearing. It's definitely worth the effort.
