'Everyone on the rail upwind - 2011 Chester Race Week' Tim Wilkes

The best sailors make the fewest mistakes and can adapt quickly to changing conditions. That is the name of the game this year to win Chester Race Week. 147 boats from around the Maritimes competed in the four day event at Chester Race Week with wind and weather challenges.

Wednesday the wind blew the dog off the chain and the rain and cool weather made everything miserable. There were dismastings and real honest-to-goodness boat crunches with extensive damage.

Thursday there was very little wind, not even enough to get the distance sailors a race, and cloudy skies.
Friday had ideal wind conditions, but you felt as if you were sailing in November, as opposed to August.

Saturday dawned bright and sunny with beautiful cumulus clouds and a light breeze. It was finally summertime in Chester! You needed your sunscreen today and could actually sail in a t-shirt instead of your long underwear and numerous layers of rain gear. The sailors got what they wanted, and that was lots of racing.
