Queensland recreational fishing rules to change from 1 March

The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries is set to release new recreational fishing rules from 1 March 2009. These changes will also impact on recreational spearfishing, crabbing and include the opening of three new impoundment fishing dams.

The changes to the regulations are primarily the result of the findings from a review of the East Coast Inshore Fin Fish Fishery. This has brought amendments to size and bag limits for a number of species including whiting, tailor and sharks.

The updated recreational fishing guides will be available from February 2009 but in the meantime more information on the process and the changes to occur can be found at: www.dpi.qld.gov.au/cps/rde/dpi/hs.xsl/28_12570_ENA_HTML.htm
