Vance has kindly volunteered to brief the sailors he is involved with. I'd ask any of you guys that have associations or friends in any of the sailing clubs to also give them a brief on what, when and where we intend doing.

I will also have my jetski @ Peli Point - like Phil I just need a responsible, experienced driver (very easy to suck lines inside the jetski impellor if you don't know what you're doing - then you're stuffed).

Bottom line is that if you think there's any chance of you needing a rescue then perhaps you shouldn't be particpating. If you have gear failure then to me it's like any other day you're kiting - don't expect someone else to rescue you - if you're not comfortable with that then don't participate. We're not trying new freestyle tricks here so if people can't keep out of other water users way or crash their kite when riding in a straight line then please don't participate. If you've never done a run over to Lucky Bay then it would be smart to do a training run to see if you're up to it.

The issues of upsetting other people on the river are very real but can be minimized with some common sense. It's great to think through the "what ifs" but the river is always full of water craft EVERY weekend and there's never going to be an ideal time or place - the alternative is to put it in the "too hard bin". This was never intended to be a bigger than Ben Hur event - just a few guys and girls who go for a kite together and set themselves a goal - KISS

This is just a fun thing that I am simply using Seabreeze to invite others to join in if they wish. There is no registration, no head count, etc so as Jan suggested, get yourself a buddy to make sure you made it back OK.

Bottom line you must be responsible for yourself and your own actions - please don't let the consequences of that be actions against all of us!

Forecast looks AWESOME

hey i probably wouldn't be able to match your pace upwind and will be screwed after the trinity regatta in the morning so would be willing to offer my service on a rescue boat (plenty of experience boating and doing rescue boat/coaching of dingies) or would it be possible to join in from the upwind marker.

Hey Damo and kitekrazzzy that is very generous of y'all...I would be happy to make you guys a food and beverage snack....for while you're on the boat. Thanks heaps for the offer, but Phil have to make decision who is on the boat, as it is his.

Anything you guys don't eat or drink?

For all those South of River ppl....

Saw some signs up about the freeway being closed 12 midnight through to 8pm this saturday.

If someone who pays more attention to the signs than i do could confirm whats going on that would be great, might be a pain in the proverbial getting back to melville via car

Damo if you're up to driving the jetski that would be cool mate. I have a PFD that DPI will require you to wear.

Kitecrazzy of course you can just do the downwind leg if you want - just need to bum a lift back with one of your mates - and join the back of the pack rather than potentially cut off the leaders.

Jan - you trying to psych the Melville guys out?

Looks like nuking winds today.

Check your gear before you go out! Don't take out a kite that is too big for you. I'm planning on taking the 9m (with leash of course) and to have some fun.

You're on - thanks Toby, cya there just before 4pm.

For those particpating please make sure that your kites are all ready to go BEFORE 4pm. I anticpate the briefing taking no more than 10 minutes - that only leaves 20 minutes to launch everyone and spread out over the 1km start line.

We won't be delaying the start unless the briefing takes too long - please read all the previous posts so that we don't have to go over stupid questions.

Ring 1194 to synchronize your watch before the race - I'll confirm race time again @ the briefing.

Map www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=1298 Approx 3.4km from start line to turn marker in a straight line.

Turn Marker www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=1299 location as per map and Puppets post.

Unconfirmed results:
Congrats go to Ian (Aussie) Ausden 1st in a time of 30mins I think he said?
2nd Jan
3rd VB
Feel free to publish your times guys.

So I think the Peli Point crew have taken out the first challenge

Conditions were pretty demanding with the task directly into the wind, gusty 25 knots+. There was a little carnage but none involving any sailboats

Thanks to Phil for providing his rubber duck and Dave who crewed for him as rescue. Also thanks to the two Tobys - one for driving my jetski and recovering people's boards, etc the other Toby for securing my kite after my harness came undone and I lost my kite - also thanks to the guy on the Slingy who dragged my kite to the beach.

**** happens as they say - 20mins upwind duelling with Aussie to be first round the marker, 13mins to swim to the beach, 3min run down the beach, 5mins to untwist my lines and relaunch, 5mins downwind sprint from Lucky Bay to Peli Pt - total time for my triathlon 46mins

"unconfirmed" is right - this is Peli Pts slant on how it went down
There is always 2 sides to every story.
Im sure the Melville crew will come back with theirs as soon as poor rellie makes up a good one

Seriously - it was a great event. Hell conditions for sure - more like offshore ocean racing than a cruise on the river . Medals all round I reckon.
Thanks to Ian for suggesting & organising the first round of what many hope will become a regular scheduled part of the WA summer kiting calendar

hi everyone

aussie came in at 30 mins flat
jan 30 mins 30 seconds
vb (i think) was 33 mins

good stuff.... was good to see the skills of some of the guys out there... seeing as tho i haven't had a line twist for a while, yesterday was the day for it... kite inverted, lines crossed... bundled up and walking back to the beach. STOKED!!

my time... dunno... clock is still running... reckon i coulda run it quicker :)

good stuff youngie... thanks to everyone who came and had a good time.

Yeah - good stuff Youngie. Typical good organisation, good briefing with safety as a priority, and having the rescue boat/jetski around. Pity I crashed 4 times, lost my board for a while (twice) and only got 3/4 way upwind before being encouraged to pack it and head back.

Hey Youngie, before the race you reckoned you wanted to have a 7m Warrior (which I was using) rather than the 5m Maniac you used. Still think that? I found the conditions pretty tough and I stuffed up a few times in the gusts when going toe-side.

I reckon I got in my biggest jump of the year though (pity it was unintentional, very messy and resulted in a (temporarily) lost board, dropped kite and bar slammed into my lip!).

Still, count me in for next time....

And thanks to Nick for the refreshments
How good were those sangers
Reckon even our own celebrity chef, PsyLor, would have a chore matching those munchies.
Have Melville Kiters found themselves a catering dept. Hope so

Hey all. Can we put off round 2 of the slaughter until the following weekend as the state titles are on next weekend, and there is quite a few of us who can't be in 2 places at the same time.

Our thoughts exactly VB
Consider Round 2 of the WA Speed Challenge cancelled in lieu of the WA Freestyle State Titles.
C U all at Woodies.
NB: Saturday is "qualifying rounds" which in 'WA speak' means all comers welcome for a day of fun kiting where you can get yourself official WA ranking as a freestyle rider.
There may never be another opportunity like this - DO IT

that was fun...must have been cos im still sore! cant wait for the next race.

few of us were talking at melville yesterday and were thinking of a triangle course...shorter upwind followed by 2 broad reaches and maybe a couple of laps...what do u think? also need to sort out the starts...maybe a gate start would be best for kites?

lets get the format right and this will be a blast.

thanks to all those who did the organising....loved it!

T'was a good day, i think you may find i came forth, but was delayed considerably attempting to find out if youngie was ok. this upset my whole concentration thingo, lost it from there.

Really i should be awarded first for being a good sport and helping out the opposition, not that i did anything.

Beaten again by VB, damn this game.

Thanks to all for organising and making it a hell arvo with aches pains and bruises. All the boaties seemed stoked to see us, got so many waves hoots and one girl even showed her breasts.

Gotta do it again and again and again.

tell the truth Rellie, the real reason you came fourth was that your circled that boat with the bare breasted chick several times and let the others slip past
