Funny realization about foiling gybe, board catches up to flipped sail!

Have you ridden the bigger wings at all? If you were at the area where Andy was recently I'd happily let you try my slingshot/foilx setup sometime. If you're getting up on that AFS 1080 with a 5.8 you could probably get away with even smaller like a 5 or less in similar conditions.

Thanks for correcting my AR calc! I ride Moses foils. The 790 is close to the NP in that overlay. I ride that from about 18 knots and up. Less than that I am on the massive 1100. I have added it to the comp. Mine is bigger than yours!
From your posts it sounds like you could use a little more lift from below, I would take aeroegnr up on that offer if I were you! By the way, did you notice how short Tyson Poor's harness lines were in that video? You have had some posts about injuries and such. I am all banged up and I use these big wings to lower the sail size and extend my sessions. Something you might want to consider. Your smaller than me so you don't need this big but what I have been driving at is that your big wing might want to be bigger than that 1080 at least untill you master your gybes.

No problem utc-4, yeah I was looking at the Moses 1100 when it first came out, for light wind foiling, but it looked too big in a pic. with the F1080 side by side. Ended up learning how to get up in light winds with F1080, and was not trying foiling gybe at that time, so gave up on it. I have gotten around twice with the gybe now, just need a day with clean gusts like my second day with Andy to get it, I think, will see soon hopefully.

But I decided to finally paint the black stripes on my Goya Bolt white, see my General forum post, and learned afterwards it has to cure for a week before seeing saltwater! So I am out of action board-wise until Monday.

I know, right? What's with these people? A board you can't use in Florida without blistering your feet. Anyhow, if you change your mind and there's wind come on down - I'm taking my first wing lesson at 8 but I'll have my gear ready for windfoil by 11 or so and you're welcome to tool around on it. NB should have their truck full of gear there as well I bet.

Thanks, appreciate the offer, but on top of the board paint having to cure, this will give time for my elbow to heal completely, it is so close, and I have a project that I need to get moving on and now am, so no more checking wind forecasts until Sunday evening!

When viewed from head on the glide has much less curvature (the wings turn down less on the glide) so more area is devoted to lift rather than stability. I can't find the thickness info but my guess is the glide is thicker even with the slim naming (Paducah can you measure?). All of these details make the glide have a much lower take off speed and a much lower stall speed. These are REALLY desirable qualities. I know you love speed and that's cool but a wing like the glide may be just what you need to help you master your gybes. It made a huge difference for me when I switched from Horue XL to Moses 790. Keep in mind I am just trying to help, not put you down. I appreciate your energy for this subject!

Sailed the HP 13 today (updated version of the Slim M). Yes, quite different from the AFS wing. Thicker, slower, much more lift (these are objective not subjective terms). Felt like I was at least one sail size quicker getting off the water, would jibe in about 10-11 kts with a 5.4 (I weight around 64 kg). I got around on some ridiculously light ones. Felt like it hit a speedwall about 2-3 kts slower than the AFS (subjective).

I can measure thickness if anyone is curious. The NP Glide set was absolutely silent, btw. Felt twitchier than the AFS which is noted to be a stable set up and a bit more back footed (and affirmed my preference for foils that aren't that way). I was using the small stab and curious if the larger one would settle it down a bit. Once you get accustomed to a longer mast (e.g. 95 for me), annoying to go back to a shorter (80cm) one.

Good info., thanks Paducah, I use a 5.8 in 10-11 knots with the AFS F1080 wing (their largest surface area wise), weight 84 kg, on a Goya Bolt 135 L board 80 cm wide.

In all fairness Paducah, before my lessons with Andy I was using a 7.2 sail in 10-11 knots, but now I am thinking of selling my 8.0 sail, because the 7.2 will now get used for sub 10 knot days.

I also found the Neil Pryde medium foil unstable and added a larger stabilizer and it made a big difference
foiling thru most of my jibes on it now.

Yeah, thought that little red 220 stab was a bit small for a short fuse and lower speeds. I have the old blue stabs - was going to try the old blue small next. I don't recall it being as pitchy. I don't sail it enough to warrant spending a couple of hundred on the new big red one.

Utc-4, a larger wing would help for sure, but then I would have to go to a different foil and get that setup properly on my board. So for now sticking with what I have, getting close, just need to carry the same amount of speed as when at Andy's camp and should be good!

Sail wise, I am on a lot smaller sails than I used to use, and recently was using a 1 meter smaller sail than a former windsurfing pro and shop owner was (we were both on foils), so do not think a bigger wing is going to help reduce sail size that much for me, but it would slow me down for sure.
