That is quite weird but reflects what many kiters have indicated to us at wello, it's the speed you guys are most impressed with.

I'm just waiting for some kites to pick up the cause, late last year there were 2 kiters I hadn't seen before that were reasonably quick across the wind, thought they might pick up on the whole gps thing.

So when you swapping kites for sail liz

I don't understand how kiters can see windsurfers as slow-moving -- every time I've sailed with kiters they're a good 30% slower than me. Haven't met a kiter that can keep up with me yet! And I'm not what you'd call the fastest windsurfer out there either...

Earlier this week in that big southerly I went out in waves on Monday, then flat water on Tuesday. Scored the biggest waveride (for me!) ever, then on the flat water managed a fully planing gybe. The waves were good, but they didn't make me whoop and fist pump like that planing exit did

Kites can go very fast if they have the b*lls for it. We have a couple of guys up here that fly off the wind, but control becomes a real issue.
I love flogging downwind with a fast teabagger, and watching him fight for control, and if he digs it in and goes over, wow spectacular

I have also noticed, that when we go too far off and start to lose power, it doesn't seem to affect the teabaggers. I think it boils down to b*lls & boards with them, get the combo right and the buggers will fly.

Yep, I would have thought that a kite combined with a mono speed ski (i.e. a water ski that they use for fast runs behind a boat) would be an ideal speed combo.
Drop that kite down low and let it drag you hard, should crank the speed
Might be hard to get back upwind though

Dont know about a GPS, cant even afford to think about new fins at the mo.

Will have to come down and have a crack at keeping up with you guys though, sounds like fun. Just when I was convincing myself to get out in the waves

Hey Grumps that's the beauty of Windsurfing you can do both, I've got some old speed gear you can have for free, and saVE your doe for the wave stuff. I still absolutely love waves, and is probably still the pinnacle of windsurfing for me. However, at the moment it feels you get a better bang for your buck speedsailing only needing nature to cough up one ingredient (Wind) instead of 2 (Wind and Waves). At the moment I'm going through another obsessive stage, this time it's about speedsailing, just can't get enough of it even in light winds. But next 2 major holidays easter and october school hols are both wavesailing holidays. It's a great sport!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how many kiters end up with spinal injuries due to eating it in 2 inches of water whilst going for the speed record.

Fortunately I think most of them end up skipping across the water getting dragged, not that I'm saying it still wouldn't leave a mark or two. Most of the kiters problems come from their huge jumps at the waters edge.

I crap myself on occasion down our run as it can get down to around 12" deep in places on a low tide, just got to think lots of happy thoughts

Hey elmo, I've seen teabaggers do huge barrel rolls after coming unstuck doing high speed down winders, all arms & legs
They don't come to a sudden crashing stop like us, but do real nice cartwheels, makes my day if it's a mate

Good fun to push a teabagging mate downwind, and listen to him scream [}:)]

...especially when its choppy Kiters have an advantage in that they can rip on billiard table flat 2 inch deep water and 40 knots of wind. But if it gets choppy, its game over for them. Windsurfers are faster in more than a few inches of chop.

Hey hey mk

Yeah its' your speed that we all notice. A lot of the time we see what I assume are windys who like to sail and just chill, and not going at warp speed; and throwing front rolls and things . I'm still yet to see any of u guys do tricks like this at Wello lol. Bring it

I go hard and fast and other times just have a chillout kite... It just depends on the conditions and what not... U should try n race our top few guys.. They're easy to spot out there aye, and it'd be good 2 see a kiter thrash a windy lol.

Swapping kites for sail... I will try a sail lol, but you cant ever get the kiter out of me

So so sooo true what u said about injuries with speed running in 2 inches of water, but thats personally just stupid. I mean without putting anyone else at risk or anything, I'll kite in 15cm of water comfortable, but not usually at wello (too many rocks and things 2 get caught on).

lol this has now gone to a 'are kiters or windys faster'... we all know the answer [:p} Coommmeee on...

Goodwinds. Any of u guys get out y'day!? Was awesome. I'm actually sore and it was only a 3 hour kite

Hitting wello definately sat of its blowing *lets hope*, and maybe tomz

Well you have currently the 3 fastest ranked sailors in qld at sailing wello so where are you're guys to race, i'm sure we're up for it (when someone's poor tootsies stop being sore).

Yesterday I was out and in cruise mode, well more discovering 95L does indeed not float a 95kg person. I'm trying to learn tricks, unfortunately I'm too used to being in fast mode... is it ok if we import haircut or jesse, they shall fulfill you're want of tricks. I saw a few kites downwind, you guys should come out the back in a se'er and ride/jump some swells.

How bout speed race with our guys, and who can jump the highest =P C'mon im sure you can do it =P jks mate.... I luv u all.

Yeah I was one of those kiters. We all seem to stick with what seems to be the unsaid 'kiting area' and u guys have the other side, and wherever really. Just easier for us also to launch and land there etc.

I'm not too hard to spot in an bay full of guys. lol bikni, waist harness, short roxy boardies. I was there and had the Red Cabrinha which is the good old 'C' shape. haha. traditional old kites .

yeah Jessies n awesome bloke just haven't seen him ride! and we aaaalll hear about haircut... =P cant wait. Name a day theyll be at wello and ill surely be there

lol. Gary that's very cute.

HIVE do not finance my kiting so you are going down the wrong track.

However, if you are somehow strangely serious lol, just jump onto HIVE's site at http://www.hiveswimwear.com or e-mail her ....>>Kat

Liz already has enough lost puppy kiters, i'm sure she dosen't need any lost puppy windsurfers also. Much to my dismay even chicks with bikini's are hard to spot when sailing SE at wello.

Name the time and place liz, just got to wait for vando's feet to heal. The fast kiters are easy to spot, they have less kite movement than the others and the two at wello last year also were using different boards. There was a kiter who came down to vicky point speed run with us, he managed to beat Wim who was sailing wave gear, then there was Mitch (I think) who had a go in slalom race last year up at lake with a kite.

haha Bob, nah that's the thing with these HIVE
http://www.hiveswimear.com bikinis.
As they are designed for extreme sports and surfing, they just don't come off - it's all in the design and how you wear them (if you do them up properly that is). Hence why I am proud to have them as my sponsor.

And If it DID come off, it'd forever be a classic 'Wello story' that'd be the topic after every sesh 4 a very long time [}:)]

Thanks Mark. lol. Yeah need less puppies following me. jkn. We're hard to spot when your sailing cuz I'm going so fast you can't believe your eyes =P jks.

I SHOULD be down there this sat depending on the wind lol. It better be beaut again =D Otherwise does anyone sail down at Burleigh cuz im thinking of going there on Sunday for a surf and maybe a kite if its blowing =D

imo, It's a lot easier for guys to hold an edge and do speed runs because if they feel like they are going out of control they have the extra weight and BIT more strength to hold them back and get back on the mark. lol. The one downside of weighing less. haha.

Gooooodwinds.

We both had a bit of fun racing each other down the bank in 18-23 knots.I didnt think there was much diff but it was abit to far off the wind for me.I be happy to lend my gps if you want to see how quick your going.

First wavesail in over a month..........

Yes I remember why I used to love it so......

Only a poet or writer could describe the magic?

It was a light to moderate day planing about 30% of the time, waves about waist to chest high...... Scored a few beauties!!!!!

How does one describe? In those conditions it's certainly not the adreanlin rush of speedsailing.... It's sort of like a sweet romantic dance with the ocean

Mark

you say:

By my reckoning - you may have overlooked someone who sails up the north coast and a couple of Goldy sailors - at least looking at times posted on GPS - Speedsurfing. Plus at least one sailor at Redcliffe.

All that said. I personally believe kites have the capacity to whip a poley's pants - if they rigged and designed the boards appropriately.

As it stands at the momeent I think the poley's will rule. Running down the bank at Wello is fraught with danger - some of the kiters are like slow moving chicanes - especially the ones that seem to have no peripheral vision and do not look before they 'boost' - and change direction when they land.

I make this comment not because I don't respect kiters or am not happy to share the water - but the number of near misses - concerns me.

LizB - you should try poledancing (and not in a bar as your myriad puppy dog like admirers would like!).

Mark - while not in the top 3 - happy to lend my support to a race if people are up for it.

- J

Justin, I accept what you say but to me it's like this- they all have an ability to participate in the WQ rankings and GPS comps. It's like someone on the goldy possibly being a top racer but they never race so how can they make that claim. I'm not disputing that there are not other faster sailors in qld, for example Al or Sean.

So I shall clarify for Liz 3 of the fastest sailors.

However let me point out that this highlights the glaring fault of GPS results, get people on the same stretch of water on the same day and then see who comes to the fore.

Probably should stop preaching anyway since i'm not dedicated to speed like many others from round here.

BTW there aint too many kites out at wello on the fastest days and many have become used to people broad reaching down the bank.

I'll throw out the challenge for you to attend Al's Sandy Point speed week. Sorry only one trip away from home a year, plus we get our own partially flat water and 30knots over winter.

Feel free to submit you're tracks for WQ's rankings and bump us off the top spots, I don't think it will be too hard for someone with 30knots and flat water ... considering I haven't picked up a slalom board for 4 months i'm surprised someone hasn't done it already.
