Hi Mark I agree that the gps comps dont show a true indication of whose the fastest. But it just adds a bit more interest and a bit of fun. The QLD gps Rankings though give people the chance to post there best speed where they sail, so its not limited to time and place (all of QLD) and wind. so no excuses really.

True and I have no doubt that those at the very top would be at the top in a true speed comp also, to recite some hearty it's amazing how the top guys always manage to find the gusts (or something like that).

Mark,

does that mean you are finally going to join Al and the crew at Sandy this October?

With regard to the point about like for like comparisons, I know Pierre and myself sailed the same conditions on 27/1 - same boards - he had a 6.5 and I had a 6.0 up at Wello. Also Vando and myself were both sailing at Manly on the 4/2 - same size sail and same board - It makes for some interesting comparisons. Results can be found at:

interesting J either {1} you have improved alot [2]0.5 extra sail made a big difference [3] I had a bad day. I tend to think you have improved alot and I know you have. Also having a bigger sail running off the wind that much would of helped.

Liz I wouldnt give up on that wind yet today I think there might be a chance for a seabreeze this afternoon.

Wot is FAST? Is it best 2sec, 5x10sec, 1 hr average? Know Simon Fyfe went 35.6kts for 2 sec and 21.0kts av for 1hr this week on a 10 yr old Board Crazy board. Didn't Phillip Nott from the Goldie go 42.2kts (2 sec) at Yamba recently? Can you really compare someone on a dedicated speed setup with a guy on freeride? I like gps-speedsailing idea of 5x 10sec...... no 'lucky-gust' winner. Would be cool to get everyone together at the same spot on the same day. (Actually, isn't that what Justin B is trying to do with the K.A. Speed challenge .... let hope he gets the wind for the event.) Following someone like Pierre or Vando bear WAY off the wind is a great lesson in how to go fast!
