Landsailing gets a boost in Kambalda
Landsailing enthusiasts at Kambalda have received a
boost after the Shire of Coolgardie passed two motions designed to
increase the sport's tourism and recreational potential.
Last week councillors have approved a proposal to establish a reserve on a section of Lake Lefroy, which in 2006 hosted the Pacific Rim landsailing championships.
Councillors also voted in favour of setting up a smaller landsailing track closer to the Kambalda townsite which would also be visible from the highway.
The shire's CEO Mal Osborne says the track will be an enticement for tourists to try the sport.
Mr Osborne says the motions are part of a strategy to market Kambalda as the home of landsailing.
"The benefit of having a designated area on the lake means that if there are future events, those events can be held on there without the event operators having to get special licenses each time," Mr Osborne said.
"I guess it also does give the landsailing club some surety as to the future of their operations."
