The 16ft Skiff National Championships Heat 5 was sailed in another 8-13 knot south-easterly breeze under cloudy skies.

'Tooheys Extra Dry', sailed by Justin Sharrock from the Belmont Club, went to a comfortable lead in the early stages of the race. They were soon pressed by 'OAS', sailed by Danny Anderson, also from the Belmont Club.

Mid-way through the race 'Sutech Building Consultants' sailed by Daniel Turner from the Manly Club put their boat into overdrive and, by picking some good breeze shifts, challenged the early leaders to take the lead. They went on to win by over a minute from 'OAS', with 'Tooheys Extra Dry' a further 37 seconds behind.

Racing continues on Friday 8th January and runs through to Saturday 9th January.
