The OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Sailing Team has gotten back into racing on day three of the ISAF Youth World Championships after heavy winds on Monday cancelled racing.

Sydney's Hobie 16 crew of cousins Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin continue to lead the way for the Australians and sit in second place after four races, just three points behind the Italian leaders.

Waterhouse and Darmanin, who were elected as team captains for the Australians before the regatta started, sailed well in the light and shifty conditions to have two solid race results.

OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Sailing Team manager Kristen Kosmala said the sailors were happy to be back on the water after Monday's unscheduled day on shore.

'Today was a really long day for all the sailors,' she said. 'Due to the light and shifty winds they were out on the water for at least an hour and a half before racing even began, but once racing got underway the Australian team put in some strong performances once again.'

Adelaide's 420 girls crew of Lauren Thredgold and Megan Soulsby were the big movers of the day and are currently in sixth place, with a third and seventh making for a positive day in Buzios.

David Gilmour and James Omay also sailed well in the 420 boys fleet with the West Australians moving from 17th to 13th after four races.

In the Laser Radial fleet Ashley Stoddart is currently in 16th in the girls fleet while Curtis Skinner moved up to 25th in the boys fleet.

Australia's RS:X competitors, Queenslanders Luke Baillie and Joanna Sterling, are continuing to learn with every race, Baillie is 22nd in the boys class and Sterling is 14th in the girls class.

Tuesday is the regatta's scheduled lay day before racing gets back underway in Buzios on Wednesday morning with three races planned for all seven classes.
