Australian Tasar Sailors set for World Championships and Masters Games

Aussie Tasar Sailors are set for two major regattas to kick start the 2009/2010 season in Australia including the Open Worlds in Japan and World Masters Games in Sydney both with fleets in excess of 80 boats.

Sailors heading to the Open Worlds take off this week for Wakayama, approximately 40 minutes south of Osaka. 80 boats will contest the title, currently held by Jonathan and Libby McKee of the USA.

Competitors from Australia will include current National Champ Shane Guanaria and crew Felix Grech and former World, National and current NSW State Champions Nicole and Rob Douglass from Ulladulla in New South Wales.

The Tasars will also be a spectacle in Australia in mid October when 97 boats line up for the World Masters Games.

The fleet will include the Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, multiple sailing greats such as Tom King (Gold medalist 470 Sydney 2000) and Malcolm Page (Gold medalist 470 Beijing 2008) and a large Farr 40 contingent including Martin Hill, Richard Perini, Chris Meehan and Jeff Carter.

Not to go unnoticed is a representation of Tasar regulars including Payne, Macfarlane, Quirk, Warnes, Brethertons and Ridgways who have all won Tasar Masters titles. The World Masters Games will be sailed from Woollahra in Sydney commencing on October 13th.
