Bellerive Yacht Club to open Derwent River championship

Bellerive Yacht Club will have the honour of conducting the opening summer pennant racing on the River Derwent tomorrow with more than 50 yachts competing in six divisions. Pennant racing is the core of keelboat summer competition on the river courses, with Hobart's three major yacht clubs, Bellerive Yacht Cub, the Derwent Sailing Squadron and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania conducting the Saturday racing alternatively. Many yachts contest at least two of the summer pennants run by different clubs, and the DSS and the RYCT also conduct racing for one-design classes in addition to mixed divisions.
