NSW Maritime has issued an exclusive use aquatic licence for areas of the Clarence River this upcoming weekend for the Water Ski Classic 2011.

NSW Maritime Regional Manager North Coast James Green said that on the Clarence River, between Seelands and Grafton from 12.00pm to 4.30pm on Saturday 1 October and between Grafton and Harwood from 8.30am and 4.30pm on Sunday 2 October, an exclusive area would apply for use only by those taking part in the races.

'In the interests of safety, the area will be closed to all vessels not taking part in the water ski races over the weekend, with the area marked by buoys and monitored by control vessels,' Mr Green said. 'Additionally, there will be a 'test & tune' day on Friday 30 September, from 8.30am to 4.30pm. The river is available for use as normal by all vessels, but skippers should exercise extreme caution and look out for race craft and skiers in the area.'

'On Saturday and Sunday no unauthorised vessels are permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by event organisers, a NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer or a Police Officer.'
