Team Whistler from the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania has won the first sailing leg of the British Three Peaks Race, from Barmouth to Caernarfon in Wales, with its runners started out on the cross country run and steep climb to the top of Mount Snowdon and back. The Three Peaks Race started early today, Australian time, with Team Whistler's chartered yacht, Lightning Reflex, outsailing the other 22 boats on the 62 nautical miles of sailing to reach Caernarfon in the narrow Menai Straits about eight hours later.
