Clear the Decks sale praised

4:49 AM Tue 25 Nov 2008 GMT
The innovative Clear the Decks sale an initiative of the Boating Industry Association of NSW and staged at Darling Harbour proved a winner for many of the 70-plus exhibitors.

With free admission, no accurate attendance figures were available, but the association's marketing and event manager, Domenic Genua, said 'guesstimates' put the attendance somewhere between 1500 and 3000.

'Exhibitor feedback proved excellent, sales were definitely made and exhibitors appreciated the fact that we tried something different,' he added.

One aspect of the exhibit went against normal boat show statistics; Genua estimated 80 percent of sales achieved took place on the Saturday.

Traditionally, at boat shows worldwide, Sunday has always been 'the big day.'

'It was well received, that's the main thing, our members unloaded some surplus stock and visitors grabbed some worthwhile bargains,' Genua said.
