Conclusion of the 2009 Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup race

With today's prize-giving ceremony the Transatlantic Maxi Cup 2009 organized by the International Maxi Association, was concluded.

Five boats from five different countries took part.

The winner overall in elapsed time and IRC corrected time was the Chinese boat Beau Geste, owned by Mr. Karl C. Kwok. Beau Geste is also now the new race record holder.

Brilliant performances by all the competitors and a special mention to the Mini Maxi Valkyrie (Mr.Will Apold) who was second in the IRC overall corrected time, despite the severe damage to the generator which delayed the boat for several hours after the start.


The final results:

- Beau Geste - China (Mr. Karl C. Kwok), first on the line, first Maxi Racing, first IRC overall.

- Valkyrie - Canada (Mr Will Apold) , first Mini maxi, second IRC overall

- Alexia - Argentina (MR Alberto Roemmers) first Racing/cruising, second on the line

- Sojana - Great Britain (Mr. Peter Harrison) first Supermaxi

The departure of the Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup 2010 will take place on Monday, 22nd November in Tenerife.
