Suellen Hurling Contender Worlds 2010
For those not lucky enough to be at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron for the 2010 Contender World Championship need not worry about being in the dark. The regatta management team is utilising the technology of Twitter to ensure the virtual spectators get the best view of the racing.

'We (RQYS) as been using the Twitter technology since 2008 and it's a great way for people to keep up-to-speed with what's happening,' said Regatta Director Suellen Hurling.

'Brisbane to Keppel, Sail Brisbane, Queensland Youth Week and the Contender Worlds all have live feeds embedded into their official regatta sites using Twitter,' Hurling continued.

Many other clubs and regattas are now using the technology including the recent Audi Sydney to Hobart and Pittwater to Coffs races.

Today's 'Tweets' for the Contender Worlds have included weather forecasts, mark roundings and other random information to set the scene and atmosphere on location at RQYS.

'Twitter is a great way of transforming sailing into a spectator sport!' said Hurling.
