Days until the start of the 2009 OAMPS Queensland Youth Week Regatta

There's less than 72 hours to go until the start of the 2009 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Queensland Youth Week Regatta.

Despite only being in its second year, the event has attracted over 150 entries from all over Australia and New Zealand.

The line up of classes includes International Optimist, Sabot, 29er, International 420, Sailboard, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Hobie 16 and Pacer.

'We've been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm for the event,' remarked Regatta Director Tom Johns, 'it's fantastic to see such support from youth sailing in Australia.'

'The weather in Queensland has been mild so far making it a great opportunity for sailors down south and across the Tasman to come enjoy some great winter sailing.'

The event also includes a coaching clinic for the Green Fleet International Optimists with 20 young sailors training over the four days.

The Green Fleet allows the less experienced sailors to participate alongside some of the best youth sailors in Australia. As part of their four days of training they will not only receive coaching, but also spend time on the water watching and learning from the more experienced sailors.

The dedicated regatta website includes a live blog which will recieve numerous updates throughout the day. Parents who haven't travelled to the event are able to follow the event without having to wait for results or press releases.

With a number of sailors staying on site in the Yachting Queensland building, Manly Marina Cove Motel or camping on the Squadron grounds, the regatta also provides a great opportunity for sailors to socialise. Monday night also includes a trivia night for the competitors to battle it out for prizes off the water.
