The 66-footer The Stick led the fleet in the Hempel Paints 37th Gosford to Lord Howe Island Yacht Race, one of the Rolex Sydney Hobart qualifiers, out of Broken Bay early this afternoon, sailing into a freshening nor'easterly sea breeze. Conditions were ideal, a warm sunny day with clear skies and a tradition nor'easter as Gosford Sailing Club past commodore Vardon Brown signalled the fleet away for a perfect start. The Stick, the former Broomstick, now owned by Cruising Yacht Club of Australia member Rick Chrisianson, started towards the leeward end of the line, set between Lion Island and Barrenjoey, ...
