Melbourne to Vanuatu race certainly has had more twists and turns than board riders at a surf carnival. There were retirements from early on when Ingenue went first, then Scarlet Runner whilst she was rocketing along ahead of record pace and finally, just before New Caledonia, Mirrabooka was forced to pull in with chainplate issues. Now, even more twists, somewhat cruel in fact, with the breeze wafting along at idyllic tropical levels. All of which is fine when you're on a cruise liner or trying to fish, but not so great for making progress to your destination in a long-haul ...
