While 10 million Australians in bars, pubs and couches enjoyed the traditional BBQ on the greatest day in September, watching Geeong beat St.Kilda in one of the toughest Grand finals in many year, the 24 ridiculously stupid OK Dinghy sailors thought it would be more enjoyable to sail in the coldest place in Australia, Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin.

With snow topped hills and temperatures reaching a barmy three degrees on the water, sailors donned every item of clothing in their sailing wardrobe in a futile effort to keep warm.

Faced with 30 kt westerlies, sleet and constant rain, the Myuna Bay Sprint Series kicked off at the Canberra Yacht Club today.

A scheduled five race format was reduced to three with stand out performances by Tim Davies, Mike Williams and the O'Donnells showing superior strong wind sailing.

Tomorrow three more races are scheduled. Tonight the stories will undoubtedly flow freely with the hospitality from the Canberra Yacht Club putting dinner and drinks on for the lads.
