'NSW Maritime will target speed over the Easter long weekend' NSW Maritime
NSW Maritime patrols will be targeting speed on the water during the Easter long weekend, one of the busiest periods of the boating season.

Under Operation 'Safe Speed' from 2 to 5 April 2010, Boating Safety Officers will educate boaters about how to determine a safe speed when operating a vessel and ensuring skippers comply with speed restrictions.

Factors to be taken into account when determining a safe speed include:

the visibility
the traffic density
the manoeuvrability of the vessel
the presence of background lights from shore at night
the state of wind, sea and current, and the proximity of navigational hazards; and
the vessel's draft in relation to the available depth of water.
