10:16 AM Sat 24 Jan 2009 GMT After a third place finish, Lou Abrahams and his Challenge crew are hanging by a thread to their Morris Finance Sydney 38 division lead following the 34.3 nautical mile Passage Race, the third race of the series.
Cinquante (Ian Murray, Vic) was triumphant over the other Sydney 38 One Design's today; beating second placed Sierra Chainsaw (Mel Mollison, Vic) by just one minute 25secs over the finish line in a race time of four hours 25min 28secs in the rough and tumble on-the-nose 25 plus knot winds.
Challenge and Abrahams' former yacht, Another Challenge (Chris Lewin) finished next; Abrahams almost five minutes behind the winner, Lewin just short of 11 minutes behind Cinquante.
The rest of the nine-boat fleet trickled in; Hasta La Vista (Ray Sweeney, Qld) leading up the rear, her course time four hours 46min 52sec.
The Sydney 38 divsion continues tomorrow with two windward/leeward races scheduled on Corio Bay in the Royal Geelong Yacht Club hosted event which concludes with a further race on Monday, Australia Day.
