On day one, after a short postponement onshore, Regatta Director Denis Thompson sent the Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week fleet on the 17.5nm course to Townsville. The wind was a steady 14-15 knots as they headed towards Townsville, spinnakers flying. The tussle for line honours was between Zoe (Wayne Millar) and Never A Dull Moment (David Lyons).
