'49er'
The 2010 49er/29er World Championships began yesterday in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. Canada is well represented in the 49er class with Gordon Cook & Hunter Lowden, Billy Gooderham & Ian Hogan, Matt Dubreucq & Trevor Parekh, and Jonathan Ladha & Daniel Inkpen.

Day one of the 49er's turned out to be a difficult day for sailboat racing. With a shifty offshore wind from 6 - 12 kts most competitors finished up with mixed scores. They key to the day was risk management and damage control. Top Canadians are Gordon Cook and Hunter Lowden in 29th, lead by Ian Hogan and Billy Gooderham in 28th.

The other two other Canadian boats are in 42 and 48th.

Tomorrow's forecast is calling for big breeze and team Canada is ready.
