Volvo D-One Gold Cup top contenders

Volvo D-One Gold Cup is being held in Fraglia Vela Riva del Garda from the 28th to the 31st of July 2011.

The competition includes European and World champions from the Laser and Finn classes and also 'old-timers', who enjoy sailing on this craft. Three times World Laser Champion Tom Slingby of Australia will be here to show his expertise against the Finn. It's set to be a great competition between the great Olympic classes. 'At the moment the D-One is the ideal Men's single class,' said Andrea Casale (ex Laser sailor and multi Italian J24 champion); it's fun, very technical and fast.

Among the top contenders will be Augustin Zabalua of Argentina, winner of the first edition of the Gold Cup in Valencia, World Laser champion Tom Slingby of Australia and his team mate Nick Thompson and European Finn champions Giles Scott, Ivan Gaspic and Michael Maier. As always the staff at Fraglia Vela Riva are working around the clock to ensure that the courses complement the high technical skill of the competitors.

Racing starts on Thursday at 13:00, hoping that even with bad weather forecasted there will be enough wind to start the competition.
