River Walkers - Whitewater Stand Up Paddling in Hood River.

Australia doesn’t really have a whitewater SUP scene, but that doesn’t take away from the incredible things these ‘River Walkers’ do.

‘River Walkers’ is a short film by Waterlust in conjunction with Imagine Surf, about the possibilities that can be explored with an inflatable SUP, some running water and a few serious balance skills.

Imagine standing on your stand up paddle board while dropping down 10-15ft waterfalls. And no, you don’t have the added stability of the board planing either! It looks incredibly difficult, but really fun, and a little dangerous, but Dan Gavere, Corran Addison, Adam Cumming, Chris Emerick and Harmony Dawn

“The first time I saw a stand up paddleboard I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I’d ever seen. It’s just a longboard but even bigger! With a paddle! I just thought it was ridiculous and I wasn’t interested." Says Corran Addison – “Until I went surfing with a buddy of mine, I paddled onto a wave and it was life changing.”

It took him about a month before he was in the rivers, hurting through whitewater and bouncing across the rocks with a few mates in the Hood River, Oregon.

Check out what these whitewater stand up paddlers get up to over in the USA, where drysuits, a helmet and booties are mandatory!
