Last time I went into incognitio mode I just reminded myself why I have blocked some people from my view. It's good in a way as you confirm why, but also frustrating as I see the way some people 'argue/discuss' is so weird to what i would do. Normally I think I would get along with people in real life even if I disagree with them on here, but some people here are just so different that i would dislike them in real life too.

Not that it matters. I block them, they talk into a void, we are all happier that way.

Well, not quite that weird, but it was refreshing to hear what I see and hear in real life is not just my imagination and is a thing.

Where will it all end? If we all think that we know it all, do we stop listening to the experts that we should be listening to? Is that how humanity ends? We find something is going to affect the earth and we ignore it and perish because we think we know better than the experts?

Go to your local doctors surgery and you can the big pharma machine. I'm in a waiting room right now. A overweight unwell man just walked in for another issue and they banged his 5th shot in him while he waited. his words " my sons really unwell at the moment. He is a self employed house painter, if he doesn't work he doesn't get paid. COVID's got him really bad and he has had 4 shots"

you'd think after 4 shots n still getting unwell it would be obvious they don't work..

when are they going to promote healthy life choices? They aren't.

Every time I see my GP, she's always on about my diet and whether I'm exercising, while checking how I'm tracking with weight loss journey that I only instigated on her advice.

She also recommends I get my booster an flu shot.

For several years I had to work with a guy that was extremely caustic. It was all via email as he was in an interstate office. Every message full of vitriole, bordering on verbal abuse, not just to me, but to others in my office to. Then after about 5 years, there was a day where he was in Sydney and we had a face-to-face meeting arranged in my office. I really wasn't looking forward to it. He ended up being the most sincere, likeable, reasonable person you'd ever hope to work with. It still bewilders me how this could possibly have been the same guy that wrote all those emails.

It makes me wonder what it would be like if everyone in this forum was in the same room one day.

Make sure we include Choco and his knife collection for maximum entertainment.

I have actually met PM33 in real life, not that he knows it. I was sort of disappointed. I expected to hear all sorts of Conspiracy Theories, but heard nothing. I suspect it would have needed the right situation to bring it up. (Maybe he was being monitored at the time? )

I have met a lot of windsurfing people at a couple of events a fair while back. Most people get along and rarely do you hear controversial opinions about anything. Everyone just finds a common topic and talks. If they don't like it they walk away.

The thing about some people, and I am not talking just about CTers, but some people bring you to their topic and just keep on about it and ignore clear signs that you are not interested in it. I think CTers would take this sign of disinterest as a sign that you are actually surprised and learning something and want them to tell you more about why the queen mother had a lizard baby on mars and that is why the earth is flat.

Then again, some are just weird and post memes

That is an interesting post. I worked with a scientist for over 30 years, he was a very smart analytical person. Prior to his retirement he became increasingly weird. He imagined that the Port Arthur killings were fabricated. He asked me to scan some pages from a conspiracy theorist book that supported his imaginations that there is now way someone could shoot that many people (obviously I refused). Which got me got me thinking that there is something fundamentally wrong with the way the brains of these CT people work.

According to this USA 2009 poll, 33% of scientists believe in God. Not a lot of peer reviewed data to prove their belief. It's not just CTist's that have a vivid imagination.

Well they're certainly doing better than average citizen.

We had a physics teacher in high school. Quite clearly a smart man, but he started going on about the existence of space ships in Area 51 that could defy physics and were powered by microwave energy. Really loopy stuff compared to his area of expertise.

I was not surprised when I heard years later that he had a brain tumour.

In any culture/society there is peer pressure to conform.

The US is without doubt far more religious than AUS. It wouldn't be surprising if some scientists in the US, like many intelligentsia of the past, agree publically with the social norms of the time but privately hold very different views. Locke and Galileo are but two highly influential people for western culture who both requested much of their work not be published until after their deaths for fear of sanctions or reprisals.

Add to this citizens of western democracies are free to believe whatever they wish, opinion/truth/fact become increasingly entwined and highly contentious in a contest for moral high ground.

Yes that's how we know it exists, despite not being able to observe it. Think of galaxies like a wheel, spinning on an axis. The speed at which they spin means there's gotta be some matter there - gravity isn't enough to explain the speed of their rotation.

But didn't Newton work out gravity/orbits on the basis of ordinary matter? Dark matter would make a mess of the calculations.
