oceangirl, I took the liberty of contacting Dakine on your behalf and we've come up with a new design for you. Hope you like the colour scheme.

Oh, and we decided it doesn't need a quick release.

Who's still using harnesses now days anyway? I ditched my harness and foot straps about a year ago and have never looked back?

The freedom you get ditching that gear is amazing! Loops are tricky I must admit, but if you just stick with it everything will come together.

Good luck with it!

Did they put an extra "A" in the name deliberately? No, not Da Kine. The other name. Look closely. You're such a bustard, Leech

The sad thig is, some of us in here are getting upset because we are not hearing what we want to hear which is for Oceangirl to say "Ok I will start windsurfing again"

We all need to understand that we are very different to each other and what works for some wont work for others, you have all tried to comfort and reassure her, well done. Unfortunatly the opinions have taken over and this thread is becoming vindictive through frustration.

You are all correct, even Oceangirl with her thoughts on making safer harnesses but please understand what has been mentioned in hardies post and how we are all affected differently by a similar experience.

Let up guys and it's no skin off our nose if oceangirl needs to pass up on this awsome sport for her own reasons.

Respect to you all for doing your best to help her out.

Cheers GT

Thankyou MintoxGT for your kind thoughts. It's not like I WANT to give up windsurfing so weakly. I love the sport.
How would you guys feel if you were forced to give up sailing today ? Very depressed I reckon.
But when you have a mental block that jams the brakes on hard every time the wind blows, what can you do ?
That's why an alternative windsport might be my only chance of regaining that thrill again. Someone earlier suggested jogging. Jogging sucks.

how about hurdles (metaphor) No seriously, skiff sailing is fast and fun.Drawbacks- lots of things to impale yourself on. Have to rely on other people when you want to go sailing.

Funny how oceangirl picks and chooses the threads she responds to in order to steer clear of any practical solutions to her predicament and focuses instead on:
a) threads intended to stroke her emotional condition
b) threads taking a parting shot at her

Oceangirl not everyone is here to cut you down, I just suspect its a case of many losing patience with you as you seem to be going round and round in circles regarding this issue.

There are plenty of solid workable solutions for you within these threads... I suggest taking a deep breath, relax and then go back and read the threads aimed at providing you solutions. There are people interested in seeing you stick at it and once again revel in the appeal of our sport.

And just remember -
Yes we all love the sport
Yes we would love to see more people involved in it
Yes we would love to help people stick with the sport
Yes we would love our collective suggestions to work for you
and yes some of us wold love you to stop moaning and start trying instead

Good luck, hope you stick with it... Black Dog over and out

Well Blackdog, I'll respond to your post if you've been feeling left out. Here's a nice little pat on the head, fella.
You can't possibly understand my situation because you've never personally experienced what I endured.
MintoxGT seems to show empathy for my dilemma and Hardie seems like he's done a lot of research on the subject.
The rest of you guys don't really care and why should you ? I thought technical innovation with safety in harnesses might be my saviour but I can see now that will not happen.
Anyway I'm selling my gear. Bye.

Hmmm, yes that would be why some of us have been making constructive suggestions (yes I am being sarcastic)

That and the fact that we are telling you that THERE IS SOMETHING ON THE MARKET THAT DOES WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR -> automatic detachable harness hook

As for the savior... he's around here somewhere... he's the guy carrying the cross (Jesus where art though ?)

Do yourself a favor, instead of spending your money on gear for a different sport, buy some counseling sessions. Hardie should be able to point you in the right direction (No I am not being sarcastic)

Woof Woof

PS - first dibs on the gear after jordo !

hey oceangirl, if you try kiting they have a quick release, and you will use it often when you are learning. You will reconsider your perspective on the need for a quick release on a windsurfer after being dragged along behind a kite while its powered up. Its a good learning curve though if you train for it and get some lessons(thats for both windsurfing and kitesurfing)

and btw are you a lawyer?

It says this just under the font style when you reply.

Please: Keep it fun! No commercial advertising and no abusing anyone! Thanks!

I back you guys 99% of the time, this is that 1% where your ego's got in the way.

Dont forget the mast base idea that we were all into, no one shot that idea down, we all had a go at trying to solve the problem and that is an idea that had not changed for 20 years (No research done to support this just a guess) But you get my point.

I dont give a rats about her winging or misunderstood perceptions of the manufaturers rights, I do however find it poor taste to take the p1ss out of her from a very traumatic experience that she went through, I hope like fU%k some of you never have a bad experience, I watched my mother die in hospital, so now I dont like the smell of hospitals, does that mean I am a looser????? WAKE UP AND HUNT TROLLS NOT NEWBIES.

I got out of this post yesterday afternoon because I got frustrated. Does anybody actually know Ocean girl and is prepared to help her out with the elmo and/or other practical on water demo. Which city are you in? Maybe one of us can give you a hand?
Because another thing about harness used is rigging. it might be that you don't have enough downhaul also whihc makes the rig always feel like it is going to pull out of your hands and catapult you at the slightest hint of a gust and also the board might feel like it is tripping up. If your in Sydney I would be glad to help you with rigging and sorting out the harness lines, hook etc.
Also I have a very good video by Peter Hart that is very indepth about harness use. Windsurfing Fundamentals and the other one I forget.

I have a question which i don't think has been covered yet, all the responses seem to be based on what to do when you get into this situation, what about tips on how to improve so she doesn't get here in the first place, obviously practice is a major factor, and I'm definitely no expert, but I found when I was learning to use a harness that if you don't get into your foot straps first you're much more likely to get catapulted by a gust.

How about if Oceangirl explains what happenned leading up to the event rather than the post crash info (as that has all been covered) ie in footstraps, which way did she fall, conditions etc. Just a thought.

The Grinchostender will autamatically adjust your mast extention and untwist you harness lines in the event of a catapult.

It will be ready in about two weeks.

Can I request that you add an automatic gyber to it, so I dont have to concentrate on my feet position, hand position, eye direction etc. etc.

Yep grumps,
The automatic gyber is a plugin i'm working on. It will come out after the forwardloperizer.
Fairly soon I will have perfected the fully automated windsurfer you can operate remotely from home.

This topic had me wondering just how quick I could actually get out of my harness if I ever needed to. I realised my harness actually has a quickrelease system! (not joking this time)

http://www.pro-limit.com/displayfeaturev4comp.php?feature_id=44

You pull on the webbing ring and the pin releases the spreader bar. Because this is the mechanism you're using to get into and out of the harnes normally it doesn't clog up. I can get out of my harnes in less than 2 seconds.

It's a kite harness but it works fine for windsurfing.

If only I had have spared the nastiness, perhaps this could have solved OG's probs. Sorry OG.
