South Australia's Thredgold and Soulsby off to Youth Worlds in Brazil

'Lauren Thredgold and Megan Soulsby SA’s 420 reps at Youth Worlds' Yachting South Australia

Lauren Thredgold and Megan Soulsby will compete at the 2009 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships in Buzios, Brazil 9-18 July. They will be Australia's representatives in the double handed dinghy girls, in the 420 class.

Adelaide Sailing Club Members, Youth Squad and SASI members, and 420 sailors, Lauren Thredgold (skipper) and Megan Soulsby (crew), head off on the 1st July to join the rest of the Australian team, to fly to Buzios, Brazil, to compete in the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships for 2009. They will have a few days to acclimatize to the Buzios conditions, before the opening ceremony and then practice race which begins on the 10th July. Racing continues for 6 days, with a rest day in the middle. The series concludes on the 17th July.

A record number of entries have been received for 2009, with 59 Nations and 280 athletes to compete at Buzios.

Lauren and Megan, are Australia's representatives in the double handed dinghy girls, in the 420 class, having qualified by winning the Australian Female Youth Championship in Janurary.

Other divisions include: 420 boys, Laser Radial boys, Laser Radial Girls, Windsurfer boys, Windsurfer girls, and Hobie Catamaran with spinnaker mixed crew.

Lauren and Megan are only South Australia's third ever representatives in over 30 years of the World Youth Championships, and we all wish them good luck.

They have been training extremely hard, and have attended training camps in Brisbane and Perth to hone their skills.
