CYCA Associates Annual Parade of Sail and Blessing of the Fleet

'Parade of sail 08' CYCA

Some of the grand old dames of Australian sailing will play a starring role in the spectacular CYCA Associates Parade of Sail and annual Blessing of the Fleet on Sydney Harbour on Sunday, July 26.

The clock will be turned back to another era for this visually stunning, spectator-friendly event for classic yachts on one of the world's most magnificent waterways.

One of the star attractions will be the elegant Edwardian Schooner Boomerang which will officiate as the start vessel for the CYCA Associates Annual Parade of Sail.

The Sydney Heritage Fleets' 106-year-old, 73-foot beauty will host CYCA Commodore Matt Allen, who will take the salute, and a Royal Australian Navy Chaplain who will bless the fleet after the firing of a cannon.

Organisers are expecting in excess of 20 yachts, all built or designed prior to 1975, to participate on the day. Yachts powered by sail and motor will be judged on the water for the Ship Shape & Bristol Fashion Award. In what should be a spectacular sight for spectators on the water or land, yachts will assemble at Blackburn Cove, Double Bay, at 1030am for the Blessing of the Fleet.

The cannon will be fired at 10.50am to commence the Review Salute and Sail Past. The fleet will then sail or motor round Fort Denison before returning to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia for lunch and a trophy presentation in the Freya Room.
