Damaged Sydney Hobart yacht reaches port

A 2008 Sydney to Hobart entrant, the Davidson 50 sloop Finistere from Fremantle Sailing Club yacht, was damaged in the Southern Ocean, on its return passage back to WA last night.

Finistere, reported by radio that she hit a submerged object 74 nautical miles off the south coast of WA and its keel was badly damaged.

Owner Rob Thomas and his two crewmates made a distress call around 1900 on Sunday night and an Albany Sea Rescue vessel took fuel to the Finistere and escorted it back to port, arriving just after midnight.

Finistere finished 14th in IRC Division 2 in the 2008 Hobart race. She had competed in the 1994 50th Sydney Hobart
