Fickle northerly for Race 7 of Barfoot and Thompson 12fter Interdom

Racing continues in the 50th Barfoot and Thompson 12ft skiff Interdominion, being sailed from Auckland Sailing Club on the inner Waitemata harbour.

Two teams of 12 boats each represent Australia and New Zealand - both competing for the individual trophy, as well as the Brooke Trophy for best scoring team/country.

Thursday presented us with a light shifty northerly which saw the race delayed for a couple of hours for the breeze to settle. Eventually we started in what was looking like it was a building sea breeze. The wind never quite got there and remained light and shifty. After the last northerly race we had a few people decided to go right on the first work which didn't pay this time. Eventually we finished on a shortened course.

First was Frankienskiff followed by Nuplex then Garde

Points are tight at the top of the table. The first race on Saturday sees the second drop come into play and this should mix things up again.

The Don Brooke teams points gap is opening with every race and giving the kiwis an almost unassailable lead.

Thursday evening was a night where we marked a milestone for the class. This Interdominion is the 50th year we have contested for the Silasec Trophy. Dinner at the RNZYS was sold out with 275 guests. Peter Montgomery was MC for the evening and called up people from past to present to talk about how their experiences of the 12 foot skiffs. The occasion was a huge success and enjoyed by young and old.

On a protest hearing yesterday Dimension Polyant was awarded average points after an incident with Gizmo on Wednesday. Gizmo was disqualified. Both yachts had not finished the race as a result of the incident.
