LIBS signals positive trend on the way

An increase in numbers at the London International Boat Show is being hailed as a 'huge confidence boost' to the market, particularly considering the gloomy forecasts at METS in November last year.

At METS, the predictions for 2009 were not positive. Most speculated that business would slump by 20-40%.

But the LIBS' final attendance figures show that interest in boating is stable and sales are healthy too. 112,000 people passed through the gates, thanks in part to clear skies and mild temperatures, sophisticated entertainment for everybody and an aggressive marketing campaign.

According to reports, while the sales could not be called record breaking, but people with money attended and some of them spent up.

NBS said in its end of show release, that on the whole, exhibitors reported more interest and business than expected, with the majority 'cautiously optimistic' about the results achieved.

'We're delighted by the success of the show,' said NBS MD Andrew Williams. 'Over the past 10 days we've enjoyed plentiful media interest, positive feedback from visitors and exhibitors and a healthy flow of visitors, with an increase in the North Hall which was our aim.'
