Maritime alert on North Coast

'A low pressure system has formed east of Coffs Harbour bringing very heavy rain and strong winds,' Mr Green said.

'Flood warnings have been issued for Coffs Creek and the Bellinger River.

'Flood watches have also been issued for north coast rivers from the Nambucca to the Tweed, including the Orara River west of Coffs Harbour.'

Mr Green said boat owners should keep clear of flood affected waters until conditions return to normal.
'And of course, even when conditions abate, it is important boat owners are aware these waterways can have all manner of debris left over and much of it can be semi-submerged,' he said.

'Boaters need to be cautious and take extra care on any flood affected waterways.'

NSW Maritime also advises navigation markers can be dislodged or even washed away in flood waters.

Anyone with information about damage to the navigation marker system should report details to NSW Maritime to allow reinstatement of the markers as soon as possible. Call the NSW Maritime Info Line on 13 12 56, seven days a week.
