New Trophy for Australian Womens Keelboat Regatta

The Australian Womens Keelboat Regatta (AWKR) held over the Queens Birthday long weekend, announced a major new IRC Trophy last night. Racing out of the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS) in St Kilda the overall regatta winner in IRC will receive the Ann Maree Pope - Tracy Luke Trophy.

Ann-Marie and Tracy were lost in a boating accident off the New South Wales coast in 2002, when the keel fell off the victorian yacht Excalibur.

The trophy is an opportunity celebrate the Lives of these passionate sailors. Under the leadership of accident survivor and Senior RMYS member Brian McDermott the trophy was commissioned with artist Louise and a fund established to provide for prizes into the future.

Racing kicks off tomorrow with 18 crews from Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia vying for a total of 60 prizes over three divisions culminating in a Presentation night on Monday night.

Interested spectators can contact the club on 9534 0227 to secure a berth on one of many vessels observing the regatta.
