8:55 PM Thu 12 Mar 2009 GMT The immense interest in restoring and sailing Classic Yachts in Europe, USA, and New Zealand is finally starting to take hold in Australia.
In order to support and promote this growing activity the CYAA website now provides an elegant, simple tool for owners to monitor activity in Australia, share information about their craft and browse past editions of our quality magazine.
The news section covers such subjects as the Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart, The Southern Trust Regatta in Auckland as well as the Classic Series on Port Phillip, Sydney Harbour and Pittwater.
The burgeoning event schedule for Classic Yacht owners is encouraging owners of these craft to put in the necessary maintenance and get them out there on the racecourse. The Classic Yacht Association of Australia has been promoting a program of events in all East Coast States for the last five years and now the benefits are starting to flow.
In Melbourne in addition to the regular SLAM summer and winter series run by RYCV/RMYS/HBYC on Port Phillip we now have the Cup Regatta (held over Melbourne Cup weekend) which is keenly fought by over fifty boats and up to 30 interstate and Trans-Tasman guest crew.

In New South Wales we support the activities of SASC and are keen to promote regattas such as the upcoming Pittwater Regatta. In Queensland the CYAA members compete in the MDBS Classic Regatta, the Peel Island to St Helena Race, the Scarborough Regatta and Deanbilla Bay race in December.
