With a number of crews changing boats and classes after the Australian Youth Nationals it will be the first time for many competing in a large fleet in their new set up.
The Victorian 420 Association are holding their state championships as part of the regatta as they did in 2009. A contingent of Tasmanians from Sandy Bay Sailing Club is making the trip across Bass Strait and will provide some top competition. With top Victorian 420 sailors George Davies and Tim Hannah now no longer sailing together the stage is set for a new crew to take the title.
Another class that has seen some changes is the 29ers with their fleet numbers increasing thanks to a great coaching program, the question will be - Can James Sly and Andrew Gillies hold on to the title?
Younger, less experienced sailors will have their chance to experience the fun of sailing in a large regatta; as for the first time the championships will include an Optimist Green Fleet. The Green Fleet is a great way for first time regatta sailors to compete and join in, with sailors on a separate course but part of the action and fun of the event.
The action starts at 11am on Saturday 17th April. Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club have a spectacular clubhouse from which to watch the action and enjoy lunch.
Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat is located at 3154 Point Nepean Road, Sorrento. To book a table for lunch call 03 5984 8290.
