| Great Barrier Reef Boat Sales, formerly known as Abel Point Yacht Sales, has come to the rescue of Whitsunday Sailing Club's Bavaria Race Series.
Great Barrier Reef Boat Sales seized the opportunity to underwrite the series, renaming it the Challengers' Cup when the series lost its sponsor after only one race.
Sales Director, Great Barrier Reef Boat Sales, Rachael Hohnke, adds 'Yacht racing is part of the social fabric of Airlie Beach and we're pleased to be able to sponsor such an exciting event series.'
'2008 was an outstanding year for us with yacht sales and with so many of our clients buying, selling or trading up to racing yachts or club cruisers, it wasn't a difficult decision to support the Challengers' Cup.'
Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore Kevin Fogarty says, 'With up to 30 yachts in each race, the Great Barrier Reef Boat Sales Challengers' Cup is the biggest race series in the Whitsundays after Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks.'
'It is an important part of the racing calendar, preparing boats and crews for the big winter race weeks and the financial support provided to the sailing club by the series sponsor is critical.' | .. . |
The nine race series, with eight races still to run, is held on Sundays throughout the year.
