Paddler Standing Up For Family and Domestic Violence

One Stand Up Paddler from Kempsey in NSW is raising money to support White Ribbon, a foundation which raises awareness and support against family and domestic violence. To do so, he's off on a little walk, The Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory, and he's asking you to throw a few bucks his way if you're keen to help stop violence in homes around Australia.

You might know him from the forums, as 'MyBrosSweeper', a play on the nickname given to stand up paddlers (sweepers) and the popular book 'My Sisters Keeper' written by Jodi Picoult. But genius forum name aside, Ian Robinson is a local legend thanks to the work he does with the early intervention and prevention of domestic violence. He's using the phrase 'Stand Up, Speak Out - Prevent men's violence against women' to spread awareness about the problem throughout the SUP community at both local events and online.

There's some shocking statistics put out by White Ribbon relating to domestic violence against women in Australia, like the fact that one woman is killed every week by a spouse, or former partner. The work White Ribbon do in schools and community groups is making a difference however, and with your support they can continue to do so.

Look out for Ian at your next SUP event sporting the T-Shirt - Stand Up, Speak Out, and if you're keen to help support White Ribbon, head over to his fundraising page on Every Day Hero here.
